TMV’s posts may be late today. He is hoping his co-bloggers (formally called “guest bloggers”) will have a few things to say here…but he himself will be doing later and lighter blogging today.
The reason: yesterday he did his posts, took a 13 year old kid who had collapsed three times in 10 days to a cardiologist, and drove, set up, and did a show. PLUS all the POSTS you see here.
By the end of the day he had so many lines his face looked like the DMV. Plus he didn’t...

Joe Gandelman, the owner of this weblog, has already posted on his view of the results of the Schiavo autopsy.
I believe that the intransigence of the controversy surrounding this matter points to a larger issue, one that could cost us dearly if we continue to demonize those who do not think the same as we think.
I have written of my fears of the ultimate consequence of the path we appear to have chosen at Random Fate, in deference to attempting to maintaining the moderate voice of this weblog, since...

The latest Carnival of the Vanities is up — a collection of posts from all over the Internet. Great reading!

It’s now official and documented: by the time Terri Schiavo’s died her brain had shrunk and there were no signs of abuse — nothing to back up the claims that she had been abused.
In other words: nothing to CONFIRM the allegations — asserted with absolute certainty by audience-seeking talk show hosts and vote-seeking politicians — that her husband had abused her. The autopsy backs Michael Schiavo’s claims that she was in a persistent vegetative state and that therapy...

Guess the least affordable metro area in United States. Is it New York? L.A.? Chicago? Boston?
No, it’s this.

While CNN rejuggles its news staff and schedule and Bill Hemmer goes job-hunting, Fox News has re-signed one of its most high profile people: Geraldo Rivera — bigtime:
Geraldo Rivera, who has been a war correspondent and host of his own weekend show on Fox News Channel, said Tuesday he had signed a four-year contract to stay at the network.
Rivera gave few details, other than to say he “got a promotion.”
So obviously Fox is pleased with Rivera, who in the end did help them in...

Links are from sites with varying viewpoints. Opinions expressed do not necessarily express the views of TMV or its co-bloggers.
SO THE SENATE PASSED AN ANTI-LYNCHING RESOLUTION but some Senators didn’t sign it. Some were apparently late in getting back to Washington but it’s also believed some may have not signed for political reasons. You can decide (and contact those that didn’t sign) by reading this list and roundup here.
OUR VIEW: Most likely some couldn’t sign for...

We just heard a special report on television (a National Weather Service bulletin, complete with a grave sounding buzz) saying that there is a tusnami warning for San Diego County due to a 7.4 earthquake off the San Diego coast.
Note: we didn’t feel any quake here, at our condo. And we can just imagine the surfers at Pacific Beach getting into their wet suits right now…
UPDATE: Here’s a news story which notes that the quake actually struck off the Northern CA coast:
EUREKA, Calif....

The Talking Dog — that super-blunt blogger who always surprises and really doesn’t fit into any “blogspeak” slot — has a MUST READ take on the Michael Jackson verdict.
Here’s our edited down taste 4 U…but you need to read the whole thing:
Well, let the jokes fly: Michael “beat it”. He can moonwalk right out of the court house. Whatever. The jury was, as I feared, duly awestruck by the big-time celeb, and the prosecutor, alas, was a tad too aggressive...

We just WON’T comment on this since it truly speaks for itself:
Philip A. Cooney, the White House staff member who repeatedly revised government scientific reports on global warming, will go to work for ExxonMobil in the fall, the oil company said today.
Mr. Cooney resigned on Friday as chief of staff to President Bush’s environmental policy council, two days after documents obtained by The New York Times showed that he had edited the reports in ways that cast doubt on the link between...

We all need to write “NEVER MIND” on our posts about President George Bush’s inaugural address talking about how the United States would promote and defend democracy and political values marked a new era in American foreign policy.
It almost seems as if a key priority is to promote and defend Vladmir Putin’s political values. And here’s why:
Defense officials from Russia and the United States last week helped block a new demand for an international probe into the Uzbekistan...

At my own weblog Random Fate I have posted a follow-up to my post here at The Moderate Voice titled “It cannot be history until you stop living it”.
The new post: “It cannot be history until you stop living it… Part II“
It is not cross-posted here because it is of a rather personal bent and does not fit the appellation of a “Moderate Voice”; however, it does align with the policy of “other views” that Joe Gandelman often presents here.

TMV’s NOTE: Punditdrome is one of our favorite sites. At a glance you get an incredibly diverse series of blogs of varying viewpoints. And you can click to see other pages of blogs. It’s well laid out, well-thought-out and easy to view. But since it’s not just of ONE view point there is a question: does this run counter to how many people view blogs — only wanting to read their OWN viewpoint? In this provocative GUEST VOICE post written below, Punditdrome’s creator Scott...

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has now entered into his biggest political battle yet — one that is filled with political perils and could well determine his political future:
His ultimatums rebuffed by lawmakers, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday ordered a Nov. 8 special election that could trim the power of California’s Legislature and dampen the influence of the public employee unions that help finance its Democratic majority.
Along with Schwarzenegger’s agenda, the ballot...

Now that self-styled King of Pop Michael Jackson has been cleared of all child molestation and related charges, the prevailing question becomes: Will he change his lifestyle?
His lawyer, speaking on NBC’s Today Show, says yes:
“He’s not going to do that anymore,” attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. told NBC’s Today. “He’s not going to make himself vulnerable to this anymore.”
Indeed, from the jury’s statements, there were signs that although Jackson...

Somehow, I doubt this trial will be followed as closely as the recent trial of Michael Jackson.
Draw your own conclusions regarding what this means.

If MSNBC thought having its new talk show host and CNN-refugee Tucker Carlson appear on Don Imus’ popular radioshow/MSNBC simulcast it was an unwise thought. Watch the WHOLE VIDEO HERE from beginning to end. See how Carlson doesn’t know when to back away from a sore point with Imus, then watch Imus explode first with Carlson on the line and then with both barrels after Carlson gets off (he apparently was kicked off). Make sure you watch ALL of it.
Let’s just put it this way: it...

You taken some friends or family members out to dinner and have had a PERFECT dinner.
You got your menu quickly. Your waiter/waitress gave you super-fast service. The food was absolutely superb and you’re anticipating returning to this wonderful restaurant. You’re almost counting the days.
Then you ask for the check. And you wait. And wait. And wait. Some of your friends or family members pass away. A peach on your table grows a long beard. You wave for your check (no check). You subtly...

And Arthur Chrenkoff has a ton of it. His roundups are always akin to what you’d see political scientists assemble: lots of specifics, lots of info but instead of being meticulously footnoted, he meticulously links. People on both sides of the war issue need to read his stuff, since it does provide a more profound contex than what you get from reading a given newspaper (or a given blog).

Michael Kinsley. one of the most independent and unpredictable political writers and editors of his generation, is shaking things up at the Los Angeles Times where some writers are leaving, new nonprofessional writers (the public) will come in — and the traditional concept of the editorial pages is being forcibly nudged into the 21st century.
It was revealed in this seemingly institutional announcement that the paper ran yesterday — an announcement that, if these renovations succeed,...

WARNING: Throw away the donuts, potato chips, triple-cheese pizzas and your cancer sticks (cigarettes): if you’re smoke or are fat you could grow older faster.
According to researchers, smoking and being fat speed up the aging process by accelerating damage to DNA. According to The Guardian, being obese can SUBTRACT 9 years to a person’s life — and smoking for 40 years SUBTRACTS 7 years. Tim Spector of St Thomas’s hospital, London tells the paper:

The self-proclaimed King of Pop Michael Jackson has been cleared of all counts in his child molestation case — a victory for him, his defense and a huge personal and professional defeat for the prosecution:
A California jury found pop superstar Michael Jackson not guilty Monday of all charges in his child-molestation trial.
The jury deliberated about 32 hours before reaching its decision.
A number of Jackson’s family members accompanied him to the courthouse to hear the verdict.
The verdicts...

A new charge in a book that Bill Clinton raped Hillary Clinton to conceive Chelsea is a sad sign of just how far journalism has fallen, how politics increasingly means seeking (often via planting information or allegations) the most brutal destruction of those with whom you disagree, and how some Internet news sites will feel around in a toilet bowl’s bottom for something striking to display and to attract readers.
We don’t have that site on our blogroll. And this is one more indication...

If you were asked who won the recent round of elections in Lebanon the boiled down answer would be: Syria.
The reason: a political upset and the triumphant return of a politically crafty former army general:
A former army general who returned to Lebanon last month after 15 years in exile appeared headed for a sweeping victory in the third round of legislative elections Sunday as anti-Syrian candidates braced for significant losses.
Preliminary results from voting in mountain regions and coastal...
