Like Russia, the Venezuela of Hugo Chavez appears ever-more inhospitable to press freedom. But as we have demonstrated before, there are news outlets in that nation which are more than capable of letting loose a fierce barrage of criticism in the direction of their fearless leader.
On the eve of the Fifth Summit of the Americas beginning April 17, this editorial from Venezuela’s Tal Cual unfavorably compares Chavez to our own Richard Nixon – and condemns him for ‘shitting on the souls’ of the voters.
The Tal Cual editorial says in part:
This is not a government, it’s a cancer. Nixon was removed from the presidency of the United States for lying. All the power of the presidency of the most powerful nation on earth was useless, given the autonomy and integrity of that country’s judiciary.”
“If Venezuela had worthy people in public office who were half as able to enforce the Constitution as they are at showing adulation for the president, Hugo Chavez would have been removed from office and imprisoned long ago.”

This is not a government, it’s a cancer. Nixon was removed from the presidency of the United States for lying. All the power of the presidency of the most powerful nation on earth was useless, given the autonomy and integrity of that country’s judiciary.
If Venezuela had worthy people in public office who were half as able to enforce the Constitution as they are at showing adulation for the president, Hugo Chavez would have been removed from office and imprisoned long ago.
