Controversial Oklahoma Sheriff Resigns After Being Indicted
The case of corruption in the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has climaxed with the sudden resignation of the sheriff.
The case started last Spring when Reserve Deputy Bob Bates killed a crime suspect with the former’s handgun when the former thought he was using a taser. An investigation into Bates’ training revealed that he had been the recipient of favoritism in the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office as a result of his personal relationship with Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz.
As more and more reports of corruption surfaced, county residents petitioned for the convening of a grand jury to investigate the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Glanz tried to prevent the grand jury’s formation.
KOTV in Tulsa now reports, “The Tulsa County county grand jury investigating the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has finished its work. It returned two misdemeanor indictments on Wednesday afternoon. Immediately following the reading of the indictments, sheriff Stanley Glanz, who has served in that capacity for 27 years, announced his resignation.”
Meanwhile, Bob Bates awaits his trial for second-degree manslaughter, which is scheduled to begin February 8, 2016.
By the way, the political affiliation of Sheriff Glanz shouldn’t matter, because corruption is not limited to any particular political party. However, in case someone is wondering about it, Sheriff Glanz is a Republican.Click here for reuse options!
