Climate Alarmists vs. Mother Nature
“It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.” That saying (trademarked by Anderson, Clayton and Company) was the catchphrase for Chiffon Margarine back in the 1970s. An updated version of that saying should be, “It’s not nice to discredit Mother Nature.”
Discrediting Mother Nature is just what climate alarmists do when they act as if climate change were caused solely by human activity. Climate alarmists proclaim, “We must fight climate change,” as if they could fight all causes of climate change. Well, to the climate alarmists, I say . . .
Consider the following statement by Israeli astrophysicist Dr. Nir Shaviv, Professor at the Racah Institute of Physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem:
“So, how do we know that the sun has a large effect on climate? If you search on google images ‘oceans as a calorimeter’, you would find one of the most important graphs to the understanding of climate change which is simply ignored by the IPCC and alarmists. You can see that over more than 80 years of tide gauge records there is an extremely clear correlation between solar activity and sea level rise – active sun, the oceans rise. Inactive sun – the oceans fall. On short timescales, it is predominantly heat going to the oceans and thermal expansion of the water. This can then be used to quantify the radiative forcing of the sun, and see that it is about 10 times larger than what the IPCC is willing to admit is there. They only take into account changes in the irradiance, while this (and other such data) unequivocally demonstrate that there is an amplifying mechanism linking solar activity and climate.”
It will be interesting to see how climate alarmists are going to fight changes in solar activity.
Then there is this report from Ohio State University: “A study of a Lake Erie wetland suggests that scientists have vastly underestimated the number of places methane-producing microbes can survive — and, as a result, today’s global climate models may be misjudging the amount of methane being released into the atmosphere.”
Who are climate alarmists gonna call to fight methane-producing microbes? Not these people:
Add to the above this report from the University of Minnesota: “New findings by researchers from the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), who partnered with scientists from across the world, suggest plant respiration is a larger source of carbon emissions than previously thought, and warn that as the world warms, this may reduce the ability of Earth’s land surface to absorb emissions due to fossil fuel burning.”
The University of Minnesota report quotes Research Associate Ming Chen as saying, “The implications of this study are enormous. The fact that plant respiration is likely 30 percent higher than previous estimates should warn all global modelers that an updated inspection is warranted regarding how we model carbon flows in and out of terrestrial ecosystems globally.”
Just how are climate alarmists going to fight plant respiration? Inquiring minds want to know.
A December 2015 report from Louisiana State University provides climate alarmists with another challenge. That report is titled Earth’s tilt influences climate change. That report is akin to an August 2013 report from the University of Washington titled Earth orbit changes were key to Antarctic warming that ended last ice age. Both reports describe how the Earth’s wobble created climate change long before humans did anything to release carbon into the atmosphere. Now, just how are climate alarmists going to prevent the Earth from wobbling on its axis?
If climate alarmists can stop the Earth from wobbling, then perhaps they can also eliminate all volcanoes on planet Earth, starting with Mount Agung on the island of Bali. Here is an excerpt from How does the climate change naturally? (from the website of Australia’s Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences):
“Wobbles in the Earth’s orbit, volcanoes and impacts with asteroids have all changed Earth’s climate in the past…Volcanoes can blast ash and gases into the upper atmosphere where they absorb sunlight and cool the planet. In 1815 an Indonesian volcano triggered a ‘year without summer’. Crops failed and famine followed. Volcanoes can also warm the planet by releasing enough carbon dioxide to form a thick ‘blanket’ around the Earth. This layer traps heat that would otherwise be radiated into space.”
In his 02/02/16 testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space & Technology, climatologist Dr. John R. Christy states, “A critical scientific goal in our era is to determine whether emissions from human activities impact the climate and if so by how much. This is made especially difficult because we know the climate system already is subject to significant changes without the influence of humans.”
If climate alarmists just want to minimize carbon emissions from human activity without causing economies to collapse, then I see no problem with them doing so. However, if their goal is to put an end to climate change, then they are wanting to stop Mother Nature from being Mother Nature. That might make her angry. Don’t make Mother Nature angry. You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry.
