I cannot speak for 9-11 survivors for I am not one, but I can give you some windows to look through that most have never seen…
Recently, there was much blather on television by various women and men about keeping the ‘sanctity’ of the 9-11 bomb site where so many souls were killed by nineteen murderers. Keeping the sanctity?
There’s a reason that all these trout-pout commentators hog...

The new media narrative (which has been gathering speed and force in the last week) is that this pastor-who-isn’t-really-a-pastor of a tiny Florida church who gained enormous notoriety in the media over his stated plan to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks (tomorrow) should have been ignored — that no one knew who he was or had ever heard of his church before the press...

It seems Moderates are going the way of the Amish. We may still exist, but the culture has left us behind. Or at least the “new media” has pushed our political horse drawn carriages aside.
Instead, this is and shall ever be the age of extremists! Let the moderates dwell in button wearing, barn raising community, while the radicals inherit the earth.
You might say these conclusions are extreme. And...

What is the president of the United States, the Attorney General, our top military commander, and an icon of the right doing giving their opinion on the threat to burn a Koran by a storefront preacher with 50 followers that no one had ever heard of and who will likely be forgotten once the brouhaha has passed?
As far as straight news value, this story ranks somewhere between an item on the pimply-faced high...

Breaking News:
Various media sources are reporting that a federal judge in Southern California has declared the U.S. military’s ban on openly gay service members unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips today granted a request for an injunction halting the government’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy for gays in the military.
The judge says that the policy...

There is a mentally unbalanced Protestant Preacher and his congregation of some 50 people in Florida who have gleefully, malignantly and insultingly announced their intention to burn Qurans this Saturday, 9/11/10. They plan to exercise their First Amendment Rights within the relatively safe and tolerant bastion of the United States – a country that has a long history of protecting and balancing private religious...

To worldwide relief, Pastor Terry Jones has called off his plans to burn Qurans on September 11. But how is it that a man as misguided and unimportant as this can so easily get the planet’s attention? According to columnist Clovis Rossi of Brazil’s Folha, TV broadcasters are only too willing to cover a ‘show’ that warrants no one’s serious attention.
For Folha, Clovis Rossi writes...

12.25 AM: “We have now put a temporary hold on our planned event.”
The BBC has a video interview with Terry Jones, who claims that Imam Muhammad Musri “clearly, clearly lied to us.”
Mr Musri, from the Islamic Society of Central Florida, said Mr Jones had “stretched his words”, and that he had only agreed to fly to New York with Mr Jones on Saturday and speak with the leaders...

My head is spinning.
Almost a month ago, I wrote about the link between the then-infant “Burn The Qur’an Day” and the faux “NYC Mosque” controversy, a link that I described as the rhetoric of hate as I tried to understand how the speakers could have actually read the words of Christ as shared in The New Testament:
Tell me, please, how to get from this message of acceptance to...

For nine years we have been remembering, commemorating, reflecting upon the tragic events that took away more than 3,000 Americans, that took away our innocence, that changed our nation on a sunny Tuesday morning.
This Saturday, we will still solemnly remember and shed many tears. We always will.
However, one thing will be missing, and it has been missing for several years…
What is sadly missing is the unity...

Al Qaeda’s Class of 2001 has much to celebrate this weekend on the anniversary of its biggest hits, not least of which is the fear and panic that has not only persisted but grown as a result of its 9/11 attacks.
Nine years later, Americans are divided by headline bigotry over building a mosque near Ground Zero while an ecclesiastical moron with a flock of fifty plans to mark the anniversary by burning...

Do you REALLY need a lesson on how talking points emerge — talking points that may be fatuous, inaccurate and so patently politically packed that it seems as if no one would take them seriously..but they do? If you do, then look no further than this one:
As news reports now suggest and Media Matters documents, some conservative members of the talk radio political culture are now trying to suggest that...

Is there a connection between the neo-Nazi movement and the more mainstream American right? Incredulous, the press secretary of CIA-toppled Chilean President Salvador Allende complains that the only people that seem concerned about this are in … the CIA. One might also note that Chile was one of the destinations of choice for Nazis that survived World War II.
For Spain’s El Mercurio, former Allende...

Hillary Clinton calls a Florida pastor’s plan to burn a Koran on 911 “disgraceful” and says it is not America. She also makes a half-joke about “hoping against hope” that if he does it it won’t be covered — also notes how outrageous statements and acts can get coverage:
Secretary Clinton: may I say:
“Ditto”?

Nut case Pastor Terry Jones from a very small church in Florida has gotten exactly what he wanted – notoriety and empowerment. I said this in the comments section of this post.
I think the mistake everyone made was not just ignoring this
insignificant nut case. This leader of a previously unknown church with
a congregation of 50 got exactly what he was after – notoriety and
donations to his web site. ...

Are Israelis-Palestinian peace talks currently underway in Washington just a charade being held at the behest of an accolade-starved President Obama?
Christian Ultsch of Austria’s Die Press writes in part:
The failure of negotiations between Israel and Palestinians was followed by violence much like the “Amen” follows a prayer.
It’s an absurd play being staged at the White House. All the...

I present my take from a Christian perspective on one Gainseville pastor’s plans to burn Korans, here. The perspective of the piece is overtly Christian, which is why I’m not posting it here. But I thought TMV readers might be interested.

With the clash of religious radicals of all kinds apparently accelerating, this article by Mohammed Abbou of Algeria’s Le Quotidien d’Oran offers a ray of light from the Muslim world. With his account of the day human beings landed on the moon, Abbou illustrates how the backward views of the ignorant faithful continue to blind people to the truth of the world they live in.
For Algeria’s Le...

Tea party folk become outraged at just about anything that President Obama and the Democrats try to accomplish these days. I do too.
Now it’s time to step up and defend America and our Constitution against a different foe; the preacher who is planning to burn Korans on September 11 of this year.
As bad as Obama has been, there is nothing more destructive of the Constitution’s spirit and letter than...
