There are many ways to study history. We have written history but that always reflects the philosophy of the individual writing it and that history and will change over time. Even the memories of those who lived the history changes over time. There is one thing that is constant – the art that was created in response to the world as the present became history. Thanks to Daniel Joseph Watkins we have the...

The desert wind would salt their ruins and there would be nothing, no ghost or scribe,
to tell any pilgrim in his passing how it was that people had lived in this place
and in this place had died. ~ CORMAC McCARTHY
The horses weren’t much to look at in comparison to the immense steeds ridden by the royalty and cavalries of England, France and Germany. They were light colored and small, barely 14 hands...

In what Mediaite calls a great cable moment, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren went at it with The Daily Caller founder and conservative media figure Tucker Carlson over sexist comments made by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson about Sarah Palin, reported on by The Daily Caller (read the original POST here).
When it comes to Sarah Palin, Van Susteren almost seems to be a female Sean Hannity . She clearly...

Should we call this “When Billionaires Collide?” or “Puching with the Stars?” A Russian billionaire loses it with another Russian billioinaire on TV during a discussion on the economy and punches him:
It looks like they’ve been watching too much American politics.

SpongeBob SquarePants may be hazardous to your mental development—if you’re a four-year-old. At least that’s what two psychologists at the University of Virginia claim, based upon a study they conducted that may have as many holes as the average sponge who lives under the sea.
In the first paragraph of an article published this week in the academic journal Pediatrics, Angeline...

Just a little wisdom from the feeble mind of me…
Never forget that every thing that has been, that is, or that ever will be began (or will begin) with a single thought in the mind of one person. We are all capable of great thoughts and thus we are all capable of great things.

For making iOS accessible to all. At a nightclub appearance in LA last weekend, said Stevie:
There is nothing that you can do on the iPhone or iPad that I can’t do.

A Tea Party remake of “The Rocky Horror Show” could become as much a cult classic as the original that ended with space aliens leaving behind “crawling on the planet’s face, tiny insects called the human race, lost in time, and lost in space–and meaning.”
Last night’s performance was a howl with other actors taking turns whacking at the mad scientist’s creation, Rocky Horror,...

This just in on the credible threats. From investigative journalist Andy Borowitz:
‘Credible Threats’ Made to US Government
Homeland Security Studying Two-Hour Video from Wednesday Night
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – The Department of Homeland Security said today that it was studying several “credible threats” made to the United States government in a two-hour broadcast Wednesday night from a...

At a time when America appears lost, and its leadership continues its reckless bid for global supremacy, it is interesting to recall the story of the only American who participated in India’s freedom struggle and was imprisoned by the British-Indian government. He gave up Western clothes and donned home-spun Khadi dress.
A highly impressed Mahatma Gandhi wrote in his Young India: “No Indian is giving...

Here’s another greatly timely video animation from Taiwan’s Next Media Animation — this time on President Obama’s big jobs speech and reaction to it.

Prime-time TV tonight will feature, instead of a Barack Obama speech on the economy, a scramble of Republicans eager to replace him.
This President will propose emergency legislation on job creation at 7 P.M. tomorrow to accommodate the scheduling convenience of John Boehner and a network football game.
Is this any way to run a recession? While voters are eating dinner on the East Coast and those still employed...

It mysteriously seemed like Jerry Lewis would not appear on the scaled-back telethon that he made famous and successful. Then it appeared he would. Now it appears he won’t.

A fascinating link from one of my longtime favorite sites Barcepundit.
GO HERE to see how some of the celebrities of our time (and recent times) look just like historical figures. A picture is worth a thousand words (and a good thing because this post is actually in Spanish).

Our political Quote of the Day comes from Meghan McCain on why failed Republican candidate for Senate in Delaware Christine O’Donnell has now become one of the country’s most prominent failed authors:
News has been filtering out all week about the mess of a book tour Christine O’Donnell has been on. Her book Troublemaker: Let’s Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again reportedly has sold...

Another GREAT video animation by Taiwan’s Next Media Animation: this time on Libyan (former) strongman Gaddafi’s Condoleeza Rice obession. Due to a scene that is slightly R rated we will send you to THIS LINK rather than post it on TMV itself. (NMA does great work and pumps out videos in a timely fashion so they’re ripped from the headlines).

I haven’t posted on TMV for a while due to various personal and business factors. I’ve sort of burnt out my brain with the overall inanity of our public discourse. However I still read Internet blogs of many other writers.
A friend from Cleveland, OH sent me an email recently and I thought it was rather humorous and sad at the same time. I have reprinted it below (including extra comments from others)...

Where is Tibet?
That depends upon which Tibet you are talking about. Is it the Tibet that the Chinese occupiers refer to as the Tibet Autonomous Region? Is it the larger ethnographic Tibet that share the same language? Or is it the larger still Tibet of yore that overlaps with four Chinese provinces and four other Himalayan kingdoms?
And while we’re at it, was Tibet the spiritual paradise that...

Of all the bits on the East Coast earthquake so far, this tape is the most fascinating. An auto dealer is filming a commercial when the earthquake strikes:
For years those of us in California have talked to worried relatives on the East Coast about living out here, or heard jokes about the unstable ground in the West. Now it’s both coasts..

Someone sent me a link to a hilarious You Tube of bloopers this week. I also have a DVD of bloopers mostly from British television. However, some of these bloopers are outtakes. Back in the 50s when TV was live, bloopers were more common — from performers entering improperly, to unexpectedly frisky animal acts, to ward robe malfunctions….all done totally live with no retake.
Here’s a great...

It happened again. I got an email asking about Desi Arnaz and whether he did the original Cuban Pete. Yes I’ve done posts on it. So I am reposting the links — more timely than ever due to all the tributes to Lucille Ball on what would have been her 100th anniversary.
If you are a performer or aspiring one I STRONGLY recommend you watch all four of these videos. They show showmanship by performers...
