From the Canada desk:
I know I’ve been highly critical of President Bush’s lack of leadership in response to Katrina, but, well, he isn’t all bad, and on Friday, I’m happy to report, he thanked Canada for helping with the relief and recovery efforts down in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast.
Our friendship trumps our political differences. Whatever the politics of Katrina, whoever deserves the blame, the important thing was that we all pulled together to make a difference during one of the worst crises in American history. As a Canadian, one who has spent a lot of time down in the U.S. (high school in New Jersey, college at Tufts, a lot of family down in Alabama), all I can say is that I’m proud that we were able to help. I truly believe that Americans can always count on us to be there for them.
