I came across this story a few days ago in the Times: “Facebook Acquires Israeli Facial Recognition Company.” Then last night I saw a story on TV about how drones are getting smaller more and more sophisticated. The report went on to say that with the winding down of our Iraq and Afghan wars, defense contractors are looking for a new market for their very expensive drones and finding it in the USA. Police departments and border patrol are already using drones here – though with very limited success in actually catching criminals.
What these two events have in common, of course, is an assault on our privacy. They are joined by other growing privacy threats.
So I was thinking that since this seems to be our future, maybe we should all start wearing burkas. That means you guys, too. This is an equal opportunity threat.
