This comes from Ezra Klein, via Taegan Goddard:
“Washington appears to be preparing to deal with it in a smooth, timely, reasonable way….
“… December 21st, people keep saying. We’ll have a deal by December 21st… Here’s how it could work: The top-income tax cuts expire, as Obama wants. Those cuts only raise about $80 billion in 2013, so they’re a ‘down payment’ on reform. And their cost is that the Democrats identify roughly $80 billion in spending cuts that can be passed into law now — so Republicans also get a ‘down payment’ on the bigger deal. And all this happens in the context of a framework for a larger deal, which includes the promise of tax reform in 2013.” … Wonkwire
Gosh! This is like opening up an empty Dolce & Gabbana box and exclaiming merrily at the elegance of the Republican emperor’s new clothes. What bugs me is that this whole budget kerfuffle may be accepted by history-makers as a genuine crisis. Which it isn’t and never was.

Conservanuts hate reading stuff like the above. Liberal bloggers are such pains! But the conservanut tendency to go after liberals now appears to have abated. They’re looking for new targets. They’re aiming at, well, themselves and their own earlier heroes.
“Now the loose coalition of scrappy bloggers, advocacy journalists, and unrepentant trolls who spent four years writing about Jeremiah Wright and Saul Alinsky are coming to terms with reality: The polls weren’t skewed, and their narrative didn’t stick.”
Meanwhile, GOP strategist John Feehery tells Howard Kurtz: It’s time for his party to stand up to “the Rush Limbaughs of the world.” …Taegan Goddard, quoting McKay Coppins at Buzzfeed
The purge is on.
