CNN reports that terrorists have attacked the Iraq’s Ministry of Municipalities building where many important Iraqis were gathered for a celebration. The bombing killed 12 and wounded – at least – 42 individuals among whom Iraq’s Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi of the powerful Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.
The Shiite group / the Iraqi government suspects Sunni extremists of being responsible for today’s attack. SCIRI spokesman al-Husseini added that “it was very well known that it’s going to be attended by some of the top officials of the government.”
He blamed the attackers for “trying to provoke a kind of a sectarian sedition” between moderate Sunni and Shiite groups in Iraq.
“[The moderate groups] all know about the bad intentions of those terrorist groups and they are not going to be dragged into such kind of troubles,” the spokesman said.
Obviously a very bad thing. This will inflame things even more. Thankfully Mahdi didn’t die. If he would have died we would have seen horrific reprisal attacks.
