Let me make it clear from the start that I am not a broad conspiracy nut, I do not think the media sits around and plots how to help the Left or hurt the Right. I also think that the media coverage of this story is perfectly proper, focusing largely on the corruption of a Governor.
By all accounts he is not close to Obama and I do not expect the media or the public to hold him responsible for the crook who happens to be his Governor. I also think it is appropriate that the coverage is fairly minor, limited mostly to updates when new news comes in. It’s a huge story in Illinois of course but not for the rest of us.
However, I have to wonder what the coverage would be like if the party roles were reversed. What if it were a Republican Governor and a Republican President-Elect ?
Would the coverage be the same or would we see wall-to-wall coverage with people camped out at the President-Elect’s HQ?
Would it be ‘The President-Elect isn’t connected’ or would it be breathless speculation about how this would cripple the incoming administration ?
The current coverage is proper, but I have my doubts about what it would be if this were a Republican.
