By popular demand, today on Mid Stream Radio (at 1 pm eastern 10 am pacific) we will be talking to John Martin of Republicans for Obama. We’ll try to get essentially the same set of questions answered that we put to Silverio Salazar. (A Democrat who is voting for John McCain.) We’ll examine the other side of the coin and what might be driving some traditional Republicans to switch sides and vote for Senator Obama this year. You can tune in at the link above to listen or join in the web...

I did not stay up past my bedtime on a school-night on Monday, and thus missed out on the opportunity to hear Michelle Obama address the nation from the Democratic Convention in Denver. And, if I may give my apologies in advance, should Cindy McCain address the GOP convention in Minneapolis (as I assume she will) I will be busy washing my hair. Why? Because it simply doesn’t matter to me who the candidates are married to or, for that matter, if they are married at all. Spouses of presidents...

Ok, the McCain campaign has certainly put out a raft of negative ads against Obama recently, some with greater success than others and on a variety of topics. It’s only fair that Team Obama get in on the fun, and I have to admit, this one was pretty amusing. It’s only 30 seconds. Give it a look.

The latest round of polls in the post-Biden announcement era have left me scratching my head yet again. On the rare occasions when I turn out to be wrong, (who… me?) I at least try to make some sort of amends and determine where it was that I went off the beam. Since the end of Hillary Clinton’s...

This weekend I had the opportunity to interview Silverio “Silver” Salazar. Silver is the cousin of both Senator Ken Salazar (D-Colorado)and Congressman John Salazar (D- Colorado 3rd). He is a former supporter of Senator Hillary Clinton but is now endorsing John McCain’s presidential bid. I found Silver to be an engaging individual who is deeply-passionate about government and the future of his community, the state of Colorado, and the country. He offered some interesting insights as to his...

Gallup has immediately gotten to work polling the populace on Barack Obama’s selection of Joe Biden as his running mate. (And let’s face it… what else do they have to occupy their time in August until the conventions begin?) Pollsters have been taking this body temperature check immediately following the VP announcements for more than twenty years, so we have some decent history to draw on for comparison.
So, clearly, Biden has a positive impact if only a small one. It’s...

When the kerfuffle over the question of John McCain’s housing situation erupted, there was something nagging at the back of my mind about it, but I simply couldn’t put my finger on it. Fortunately for me, I no longer have to rely solely on my two remaining brain cells, as I can let the Lady Logician figure out the hard trivia questions for me.
The problem with this is that when Republicans raised the charge about then nominee John Kerry in 2004…..
The aggregate value of these five...

Three hours. As predicted, it didn’t take long for Team McCain to seize on the selection of Joe Biden like a pride of lions identifying the slowest wildebeest in the herd. OK… we knew it wasn’t going to be very long, but you have to admit that three hours is pretty quick off the starting blocks.
Just three hours after the Obama campaign sent out its text announcement, the McCain campaign rolled out its first ad this morning, using Senator Joe Biden’s own words during the primary...

Students who swim in the deep end of the physics pool are well aware of the concept of antimatter. For each element of the “normal” universe which we take for granted, there is an equal and opposite dark sister lurking out there somewhere. The electron has its positron and the proton has the anti-proton hiding out in the depths of space and time. Analogies being a cheap commodity in the political silly season, it makes sense that the dead-ender Clinton PUMA crowd would have their equal...

On Thursday of this week I was participating in chat during the taping of Ed Morrissey’s show when the discussion turned to speculation regarding Obama’s upcoming VP selection. He was talking to Duane Patterson, the producer of Hugh Hewitt’s radio program, and Joe Biden’s name popped up. (Keep in mind that both of these gentlemen are staunch conservatives and supporters of John McCain.) Duane commented, “We couldn’t really get that lucky, could we?” They...

Not because of his experience, his influence in Virginia, or his poll numbers. No, it’s because of his thirteen year old daughter. (From The Onion)
“Oh, sure, yeah, [Kaine] is definitely ready to fill out the ticket by appealing to white blue-collar workers and Latinos,” said Tim Kaine expert and daughter Annella Kaine, 13. “Not! He’ll probably be like, ‘Vote for me and I’ll make everyone go to bed early. Derr, derr, derr.’” For now, no official...

McCain doesn’t need to unveil his running mate until after Obama does (and he would be foolish to jump the gun indeed) but two sources are now saying that it’s going to be Mitt Romney. Could this really be true? I can hardly imagine a better choice … for Obama. (Well, in truth, Obama would likely have cheered even louder if it had been Rudy G.) I understand that Romney was near-and-dear to the hearts of many hard-core conservative Republicans during the primary and was the anointed...

This week I’m finding it increasingly odd when I compare our country’s response to Iran vs. Russia. When Iran tells the world that they will “wipe Israel off the face of the map” we hear from numerous sources in our country that we will “take them at their word.” This takes place while Iran, while certainly dangerous on their own turf, is widely acknowledged as not having any nuclear weapons. (At least not yet.) Their enemy, Israel, is the only nuclear power in...

Are Glenn Beck and Penn Jillette ready to endorse Bob Barr for president? Well, maybe not quite yet today, but after last night’s Glenn Beck program, I’d say they’re both getting close. If you didn’t get a chance to check out the show (even if you’re not normally a big fan of Beck) then definitely check out the transcript of his interview with Jillette at the link above. First, you might think that Beck would be supporting John McCain by default. You would be mistaken.

In the near future I’ll have a longer analysis of exactly what went wrong on the Russo-Georgian border, but for the time being I’m going to leave it to Dave Schuler at Outside the Beltway. And I think this may be our Quote of the Day when it comes to figuring out why Russia sometimes does what it does.
Is Russia, as Michael Mandelbaum, quoted in the column puts it (pooh-poohing the idea), “innately aggressive”? I don’t think so. But I do think that, like us, Russia is quite paranoid....

Assuming the identity is valid (and there seems to be little thus far to indicate that it isn’t) then Vanity Fair in Italy has apparently located Barack Obama’s long lost (or not so lost) half brother, George.
The Italian edition of Vanity Fair said that it had found George Hussein Onyango Obama living in a hut in a ramshackle town of Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi.
Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate’s half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his...

While I hate to disprove co-author Pete Abel or John F. Harris or the venerable Tribble Ad Agency, I now have the final results in hand as to who Obama’s running mate will be in this race. As many have suggested, the final choice comes as a great surprise and is likely driven in large part by Obama’s recently-slipping poll numbers. Be that as it may, on Thursday afternoon, Barack Obama will name, as his running mate… Bob Barr.
And why not? At this point my guess is about as good...

Being a hard-core fan of classic movies, particularly those with Bogie in them, I’ve long had Casablanca in my list of the top five movies of all time. Today, I will get to indulge one of my greater pleasures as I shall be one of the guests on a panel discussing trivia regarding this timeless film. At 4 pm Eastern, you can join me on Betty Jo Tucker’s Movie Addict Headquarters when she interviews Tom Barnes, author of “Casablanca Film Trivia: Here’s Looking at You, Kid!”...

Since we haven’t done one of these for a while and both of the major party candidates have popped up on the subject recently, let’s take a look at how the candidates stack up on the future of NASA. One of the more recent entries is a bit of tit-for-tat between Obama and McCain in the Florida press.
Sen. Barack Obama has detailed a comprehensive space plan that includes $2 billion in new funding to reinvigorate NASA and a promise to make space exploration and science a significantly higher...

The fight over second amendment rights in the District of Columbia is far from over, as local lawmakers continue scrambling to try to re-write laws to “honor” the Heller decision while still making it virtually impossible to obtain a permit. However, while that process drags on, one of the principals in the case has achieved at least a temporary and symbolic victory. Dick Heller has his gun permit.
The man whose lawsuit overturned Washington’s handgun ban has successfully registered...

I’m not sure if I’m sad, happy, bored or angry. (What a country!) Our old friends at the Catholic League have hammered a new list of demands to the cathedral door and called on the Democrats to revoke the credentials of some bloggers attending the convention in Denver this year.
Over 120 blogs have been credentialed as members of the media for the Democratic National Convention; those who have received credentials are allowed to cover the Convention at the Pepsi Center. While most of...

If you’re Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, you have to start wondering which is worse: having the press virtually ignore your campaign or having them pay attention to it. While some may follow the Hollywood maxim of, “any press is good press as long as they spell your name right,” the Barr team may not take any comfort from that after reading the results of Libby Copeland’s two days of interviews with the candidate. You get a sense of the article’s flavor just by looking...

Earlier today, I told you about the Denver Post’s response to something John McCain said about water rights in a newspaper interview. Since writing that column, something has been tugging at the back of my mind and I only now realized what it was. Let’s take another look at a portion of the paper’s editorial which I previously quoted.
Forget about winning our nine electoral votes next November. We don’t vote for water rustlers in this state; we tar and feather them!
