Phillip Ray Greaves II was arrested in Colorado on Monday on charges out of Florida. He has since been transported to Polk County, Florida where he awaits an initial court appearance this afternoon on charges of violating Florida’s obscenity laws, a third degree felony. Greaves is the author of a self published how-to book on pedophilia. For reasons I hope readers will understand, the title of the book will not be disclosed here.
The Florida charges are the result of Polk County undercover detectives purchasing a copy of the book from Greaves which he then mailed to Florida according to the Polk County Sheriff. Polk County is an inland county located roughly between Tampa and Orlando. Its largest city is Lakeland.
Greaves, 47, is a resident of Pueblo, Colorado. Long regarded as idiosyncratic, the pedophilia book is not his first controversial publication. Other publications include “The Grand Book of the Godless and Free,” a series of essays on religion, sexuality and politics. The Church of Jesus Christ website carries a description of Greaves as a “rogue scholar”. He refers to his belief system as “rational disbelief” and is depicted as an admirer of Aristotle and Ayn Rand.
Following multiple complaints and organized attempts at a boycott, Amazon removed the pedophile guide from its offerings.
Greaves has claimed not to be a pedophile. In response to his arrest, he has said that he has sex only with adults. He is raising his First Amendments rights in defense of the charges being brought against him.
