And so it begins

The long awaited meeting of the Democratic RBC has kicked off. As Pete Abel already pointed out, CNN is covering the entire affair live. Some early observations follow.

Howard Dean needs a new speech writer. Could he have used the words extraordinary and extraordinarily any more times? I counted at least two sentences where they were used three times. If this had been a drinking game, I’d have passed out in the first five minutes. However, he certainly did set the tone for the day. While being respectful for all parties concerned, he seemed to make it crystal clear that he expected a resolution to come from this and had no intention to leave matters hanging in the breeze until the convention. The word “unity” made a number of appearances, and the general theme of the opening remarks was that the Democrats would have a (read as “one”) nominee going into the summer and that Democrats across the country needed to be “picking up phones and knocking on doors” to ensure that the energy levels remain high and that the party’s nominee would be sworn in as president in January of 2009.

One very interesting comment he made… “Texas is ready to turn blue.” A bold prediction, essentially claiming that the Dems will carry the Lone Star State this November.

They are now moving forward to handle Florida first, and then they will address Michican. I’ll try to provide another update later as time allows should any more juicy tidbits arise.
