So how is Hillary Clinton’s visit to the Middle East playing in the Arab world? According to this editorial from Egypt’s most widely-read newspaper, Al Gomhuria, America has a lot to prove before the Arab world can take it seriously as an honest broker between Israelis and the Palestinians:
“America have to understand that security must be conditioned upon returning the land and rights that have been stolen from the Palestinians, an end to the expansion of Jewish settlements on that stolen land, and an end to the assault on its owners and the shedding of their blood. … So in spite of all this, here is Hillary Clinton coming to ask Palestinians to recognize the state of Israel, renounce violence, and not become terrorists!”

At Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday and in Jerusalem today, American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared Obama’s commitment to solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the creation of two countries. This is a welcomed commitment, but only if it comes without the traditional American bias regarding conditions Israel has imposed that have rendered the peace process void of content, as has occurred during past stages of the failed peace process.
Hilary Clinton was effusive during her press conference with [Israeli Foreign Minister] Tzipi Livni [Tuesday], reaffirming her commitment to the security of Israel, asking for what she called a stop to the launching of rockets. But she ignored calls for Israel to end its brutal attacks against the Palestinians and its closure of the border to relief supplies for alleviating the suffering of victims of the barbaric aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip.
