As I mentioned in a posting last week I think one of the best aspects of the internet are sites like I Heart Radio.
For those not familiar with the site (and well used mobile application) it allows you to listen to radio stations from all across the country, often giving you a real treat that would otherwise be unavailable.
It is in that spirit that I am here to suggest that you all take a little time out of your afternoon (or evening depending on your time zone) to listen to one of my favorite local shows, Afternoons Live With Dave Diamond.
As Dave puts it, ALWDD is the show about news and politics with a life beyond news and politics. To be sure there is plenty of discussion of the news of the day, both local and national (and of course international) but he also blends in a nice mix of the light and the interesting.
For example every Thursday he spends an hour of the show discussing the Constitution, trying to offer the listener a simple yet insightful look at the provisions of our founding document.
Friday afternoons include an hour called Fun With News where he and his producer John take a look at some of the odder (and usually bemusing) stories from around the world.
Dave himself is an interesting guy. He grew up in a family committed to charitable works and public service and with that in mind he spent a number of years in the US Navy, serving aboard a submarine.
After his naval service he returned the the charity world before finding his way into local talk radio.
Dave’s show airs Monday through Friday from 3-6pm (Pacific Time) on KFIV 1360 in Modesto California.
