A Republican Apologizes To Michelle Obama

Just for a change of pace, a Republican is apologizing to Michelle Obama this time, instead of Rush Limbaugh. (Variety is the spice of life.)

But when someone makes a comment linking the first lady with a gorilla, you just know an apology like this will follow.

I know that a great number of Republicans—and others—rightly demanded an apology from Letterman for his disgraceful comments about the Palin girls.

I don’t know how many of these same people demanded an apology from this South Carolinian Republican operative.

Nevertheless, Mr. De Pass, thank you for finally doing the right thing.

“[…] instead of Rush Limbaugh” is bizarre. I realize lefties don’t appreciate things like coherence and rationality, but Limbaugh, who is not free of error, is the most coherent thing the Republicans and US conservatism as popularly understood has going for it these days. (In fact, leave it to Obama and other overreaching and misbehaving Dems to reinject life into Limbaugh and his show, which was getting old and stale before. I wonder how many of you lefties are so blinded by your routine hatred, particularly for such objects of hatred and bile like Limbaugh, that you fail to see this.)

Of course the guy apologized, as he should. Now we’ll have to see if this gets hyped the way lefties hype so much (why is this on this Web site but nothing so far on the Obama financial initiatives, the most important thing happening currently?), in this case to follow up on the Holocaust Museum shooting the way some in the liberal networks already have, describing a “rise of hate in America.” Oh, and will this fuel excessively any effort by the Obama administration to push for hate (thought) crimes legislation?

While most Americans identify themselves as conservative, according to the latest Gallup poll on this,

despite the hype (motivated by hate?) about Limbaugh by some, most people don’t identify him as a leader or “the” leader (a or the “main person”) among conservatives:

“Nevertheless, Mr. De Pass, thank you for finally doing the right thing.”

He had to do this sooner or later, as it was obviously in order.

Thanks for the amazing honesty DLS

  • Hey now, DLS only needed 2 posts of Obama/Democrat bashing before using a 3rd to acknowledge the actual post content. Sounds honest enough to me.

As for myself… I think people are way too concerned with apologies these days. In real life an apology is supposed to signify the realization of a wrong and the person-to-person reversal of that act.

In Politics Land apologies are just another way to get one up on your opponent. No one means it when they apologize and being forced to do so is seen as a loss.

I happen to think that public figures should think about the consequences of their words before they speak. Both Letterman and De Pass clearly crossed the line of decency (what ever happened to that?) and should have apologized.

This shouldn’t be a partisan issue– but sadly that is where we are.

Hi DLS- where have you been? At least you are finally admitting that you are a Dittohead!:-) I happen to think that when Rush opens his mouth, excrement comes out. He is an embarrassment to thinking conservatives everywhere.

“Thanks for the amazing honesty DLS”

Routine honesty isn’t amazing to me, but if you were amazed, impressed, whatever, enjoy it. It is in fact refreshing compared to what you’ll encounter elsewhere.

“Hey now, DLS only needed 2 posts of Obama/Democrat bashing before using a 3rd to acknowledge the actual post content. Sounds honest enough to me.”

There’s no law against correctly addressing related issues, not only the official topic of a thread.

“Hi DLS- where have you been?”

Mostly busy outside cyber-space here in Detroit, at least for a few more months to come, too.

While I take issue with the economic mischief, overall Obama has done a good job as President, is working hard to manipulate public opinion among those to whom he can do this, and of course he’s refreshing to listen to and watch in speeches as opposed to his predecessor.

“At least you are finally admitting that you are a Dittohead!:-)”

No, though I will say I have listened to Limbaugh’s show from time to time as well as other shows, mainly lefty shows because they’re starting to get airplay in the past year or two and they’re sometimes less tiresome than the copycat righty shows like Hannity or Glenn Beck or others. Bouncing on the radio between Limbaugh and Thom Hartmann (or later, listening to Ed Schulz) is more interesting than an all-righty sequence every day. I’m not a legionary fan of Limbaugh’s, but I’ll defend him against the worst of the bile directed at him, and his show is better still in my opinion than those that followed in his shadow.

To me the “legionnaires” are the Dittoheads. I’ve parted ways with the guy when I felt he has been wrong (wrong on facts, wrong occasionally in behavior, wrong in being partisan when he should be ideological).

(For a while it was old and stale, but Obama and the Dems — our friend Pelosi, say — have managed to reinject life into Limbaugh’s show; he’s not retiring as early as I thought he would, and it looks now like the possible suckers who paid Limbaugh so much for several more years of the show are going to get their money’s worth, after all.)
