There are a lot of criticisms one could make of US policy. Misguided, for one. Arrogant, perhaps. One could plausibly argue that it is illegal under international law–I don’t really know the relevant rules and practices to be able to comment on that, really.
However, while I understand the frustration of those who feel we are in a war because we were lied to, or because President Bush decided it would be a good way to boost his poll ratings or whatever, this was uncalled for (Balloon Juice with the link):
Semi-regular USA Today columnist Julianne Malveaux said Monday that President Bush is “a terrorist” and that America is “a terrorist nation.”
“C’mon now, Sean,” Malveaux told Hannity. “We are terrorists.”
Asked point-blank if the U.S. was a “terrorist nation,” Malveaux shot back: “Oh, Absolutely.”
In the next breath she added, “The chickens have come home to roost,” in an apparent reference to the 9/11 attacks.
This isn’t anything close to representative of American liberalism. But I expect conservatives to condemn their wingnuts when they cross the line. So it’s only fair I do likewise.
Speaking of which, people often forget that there are plenty of conservatives who echo similar sentiments. Are they are dominant force in the GOP? No. Are they any less so than rabid lefty liberals who Tom DeLay routinely argues are the precise picture of a rank and file Democrat? Nope. Do we hear any condemnation of them? Ever? Or even an acknowledgment of their existence? Rarely.
