Good. Nice to see that kangaroo court case dropped.

    Was there any doubt?

Good News! Hezbillah appears ready to take over the government in Lebanon! This will give Israel a good excuse to really start solving the Arab problem.

Did you hear about those anti semites in the State Department? They’re invstigating to see if Israel violated agreements by dropping cluster munitions on civilian targets in Lebanon! As though there was an innocent Arab!

Joe McCarthy was right. State is controlled by the commies!

Folks are forgetting…a lot of people with top secret accress – who have made oaths to preserve the nation’s secrets – have leaked repeatedly (to the NYT primarily) in the past year or so.

Oh yes, I know folks will start shouting in response that Karl Rove is the biggest leaker of them all. But that case merited a special prosecutor…on none of these cases is anyone talking about a special prosecutor?

    Why?

Maybe because the leaking in every single one except Palmegate was designed to hurt Bush.

Even the NYT ombudsman conceded that the Swift story should not have been published.

Ah welll…leaking in the liberal cause is always to be praised.

Yes, there probably was and is.

It is very difficult to prove such things to a legal standard.

The most famous spy of the 20th century – long-time Russian mole Kim Philby – sued a British newspaper that alledged he was a Russian spy.

“McCarthyism” Philby declared, in righteious indignation.

Philby won, and the newspaper was forced to pay damages. A few years later, Philby defected to the USSR, from which he published repeatedly mocking his western counterparts.

Things are never what they seem. Doubt is always a good thing.

So the Bush Justice department is just trying to tear down the president by not launching investigations into these leaks?

Or do you feel CNN should be handling the investigations?

No, we’re not forgetting, we’re glad they did. Did you want us to be hated throughout the world for renditions of enemy combatants to secret prison in Eastern Europe, and have no idea that our own government was at fault? Just so you could feel a miniscule amount safer? With the bunch we have in charge at the moment, our only chance to avoid catastrophe might be some of those leaks.

It is very difficult to prove such things to a legal standard.

If so, why make the charges in the first place? Isn’t there supposed to be a presumption of innocence in our justice system? Or is doubt standard enough for you?
