Bush Both a Villain and a Hero

AP Poll: Bush Both a Villain and a Hero

Intriguing results of this poll to name the villains and heroes of the year – Bush topped both lists, in a sign of these polarized times.

…Bush won the villain sweepstakes by a landslide, with one in four respondents putting him at the top of that bad-guy list. When people were asked to name the candidate for villain that first came to mind, Bush far outdistanced even Osama bin Laden, the terrorist leader in hiding; and former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, who is scheduled for execution.

…Bush was the choice of 43 percent of Democrats for villain, and 27 percent of Republicans for hero.

I can empathize with this confusion. In times like these there is a painful disconnect between the means and the ends. The goal of a democratic Middle East was noble and visionary. The execution…not so much.

I have a concept of a Middle East made out of candy. It’s all in the execution. Villian.

Of course people like OBL are far worse, but you tend to go with the one close to home.

  2. Noone Really says:

That’s just ridiculous. OBL is a truly evil man absorbed in his own sense of who gets to live and who doesn’t according to his twisted views of his own religion. Bush is just an idealist and not very bright whose policies have lead to some pretty bad decisions. To rank him as more of a villain than OBL to be foolish in the extreme.

I’d say abysmally ignorant, except I think that 3rd or 4th made-up rationalization for the war is just as much BS as the original lies. Bushco and his petropuppet regime wanted control of Iraq’s oil. Name a peaceful democracy in the Middle East. What a joke.

Nonsense. Bush is a cynical manipulator who used 9/11 to divide this country, alienate our allies, erode our civil rights, sell out our air, water and forests to his financial backers and pursue a disastrous and expensive war that will be his only legacy as history looks back at this dark time.

I truly hope you’re kidding, GreenDreams and I’m just missing the sarcasm. If not, you’re driving full speed into the realm of paranoid conspiracy theories.

In fact, I’ve decided you were kidding. It makes me feel better.
