It’s not a foregone conclusion yet that this will work, but it does look promising and it’s great that it’s been given the FDA fasttrack. Previous attempts at blood substitutes have proven to be much less than they were hyped to be, but it looks like we’re learning from those mistakes; this isn’t really a blood substitute but a therapeutic that may have specific indications when a high concentration of oxygen needs to be delivered to tissues (like the brain in TBI).
