grognard- the GOP knew the only way they could win was by negative campaigning, and scaring Americans that they'd make it easier for us to be attacked again by terrorists if they voted for Democrats.(remember Rick Santorum's nuclear holocaust commercial?)

They also put social issues on the ballot in key states, hoping to increase turnout among the values voters.

This Rovian strategy worked in 2004 and 2002, but failed them this time.

Notice that the discussion was almost exclusively on where money was spent rather than issues. Money might be an important issue with the committee but surely the Iraq issue that was briefly touched on was the key to Republican losses. Earmarks, runaway spending and balanced budgets did not even get a mention from a political party the supposedly stood against big government and deficit spending.

Burns should look in the mirror when deciding who to blame for his loss. The surprise is not that he was voted out in a close race, but that the race was close. Good riddance to a corrupt bigot.
