They also put social issues on the ballot in key states, hoping to increase turnout among the values voters. Money might be an important issue with the committee but surely the Iraq issue that was briefly touched on was the key to Republican losses. Earmarks, runaway spending and balanced budgets did not even get a mention from a political party the supposedly stood against big government and deficit spending.
