I’m actually not a huge football fan, but I figure this method of organizing the Presidential field would appeal to some readers: Candidates as college football programs!
John Kerry = Alabama, for some reason still thinks he should be considered an elite organization but each season becomes more and more embarrassing.Barack Obama = Notre Dame, highly-touted going into the season and will sway voters based on name and mystique, but really no one knows if the praise is worthy and ends up unable to beat a quality opponent.
Mitt Romney = BYU, for obvious reasons.
Hillary Clinton = USC, one hell of an organization, should contend for the title but could easily get derailed by a dispassionate offense and poor defense. Arouses mixture of loathing and envy from other teams’ supporters.
John McCain = Miami, has everything needed to be the one left standing but it’s been a while since the magical run and the pent-up anger and cockiness can be the program’s downfall.
Wes Clark = Penn State, just being good at defense doesn’t get you much.
John Edwards = Florida, quality, tier-one candidate but is he really good enough to deserve to play for the title?
Vilsack, Richardson, Giuliani = Rutgers, Louisville etc – lightly regarded going into the season, fan favorites by the end: good stories but not going to the big game.
There is no Ohio State this year.
Dennis Kucinich, of course, is Carleton College.
Macalester, not Carleton.
Hail to the mighty champions
Hail to the conquering heroes
Hail, hail –
Oh, hold it; we don’t have a winner yet.
John Kerry = Alabama, for some reason still thinks he should be considered an elite organization but each season becomes more and more embarrassing.
Hey, do NOT compare the program to John Kerry, but go ahead if you want to make the argument about our outgoing coach. Shula was dispassionate personified, much like Kerry during most of 2004, and is a good reason why he got shown the door.
If Karl Rove was a canidate he’d be Tennessee circa 2001. Spreading rumors, getting away with obvious violations, and running an inside game at the SEC head office. LOL
I an not a football fan so I’m doing it on baseball.
Edwards is the Boston Red Sox. Hit the motherlode and then instead of building up let it become lax and so, thier time came and went and the bench is too light to be of use.
Clinton is the Yankees. Roundly despised but, seen as the a-1 team yet, falls short of the big one.
Obama is the White Sox of 2005. Not looked at too serious and seen as a lightweight. Yet is unstoppable and it’s talent much deeper than originally thought.
Is Chuck Hagel as Nebraska too obvious? (Good name but currently inept.) How about Sam Brownback as Wichita State? (Great basketball and baseball teams, but doesn’t even have a football team anymore…)
