John Warner or Danforth would be an excellent replacement, but if Bush hasn't replaced Rumsfeld after all the flak he's gotten, don't count on him to replace Cheney. For one thing Cheney knows too much, and loyalty is a two-way street. For another, I think Bush feels that a lot of voter anger is directed at Cheney. Since Cheney is probably headed off into the sunset with his big Halliburton windfall, he doesn't care about his own personal unpopularity, so in a sense can shield Bush.

I have to agree with the Shark. Cheney isn't going anywhere. If he suddenly left now, it would look like an admission that was wrong about all the stuff he's been saying from the "git".

Stay focused. It's only people who up for re-election who might--might!--go somewhere else.

I can't wait to vote.

Darth Cheney isn't going anywere. There is no October suprise, other than Republican pollsters wondering how low can they go.

Cheney has been saying stuff like this from the git. If he was going to go, he would have gone by now. Doing it a week before elections would just make BushCo(tm) look weak.

Interesting, it might even make me rethink my senate vote. However, I really don't think it is going to happen. It would involve an admission of error on the part of W and I really don't think he is cut out to do that. Rummy and Cheney pull more weight than his own wife.
