Waterboarding…”It’s A No-Brainer”

You’ve gotta hand it to Cheney. He certainly knows how to turn a phrase.

From a recent interview:

WASHINGTON – Vice President Dick Cheney has confirmed that U.S. interrogators subjected captured senior al-Qaida suspects to a controversial interrogation technique called “water-boarding,” which creates a sensation of drowning.

Cheney indicated that the Bush administration doesn’t regard water-boarding as torture and allows the CIA to use it. “It’s a no-brainer for me,” Cheney said at one point in an interview.

Cheney’s comments, in a White House interview on Tuesday with a conservative radio talk show host, appeared to reflect the Bush administration’s view that the president has the constitutional power to do whatever he deems necessary to fight terrorism.

The U.S. Army, senior Republican lawmakers, human rights experts and many experts on the laws of war, however, consider water-boarding cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment that’s banned by U.S. law and by international treaties that prohibit torture. Some intelligence professionals argue that it often provides false or misleading information because many subjects will tell their interrogators what they think they want to hear to make the water-boarding stop.

Tell us what they think we want to hear. Yes, a valuable technique that gives us loads of good intel.

By the way, you may have seen the picture before because I posted it on another torture post, but it was taken at the Tuol Sleng Prison in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The prison is no longer operational and now serves host to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.

Nice to know we use the same methods employed by Pol Pot’s henchmen. I guess Bush’s regime could be called the Khmer Boobs, with Bush playing the part of Moe, Rumsfeld as Larry, and Cheney as Curly. Couldn’t you just hear Cheney using Curly’s voice saying “It’s a no brainer”?

Bad intel is better than good intel! It can be tailored to interrogator’s political agenda.

There is actually a funny video about waterboarding (and some cool cartoons, too).

It works so well we caught Osama. Oh wait nvm. Well it has dramatically reduced terrorist attacks in Iraq. Err hmm… well anyway. It did give us leads for Zarqawi .. Sadaam … his sons … locations of WMD … err. At lease we can thankful that when our shamphoo breaks open in our luggage it’s only 3 oz instead of a full 12 oz bottle.

Of course this all assumes the person we are interrogating actually knows something we want to know. I mean come on we wouldn’t waterboard someone who didn’t know anything right? This is America after all, we do have strong Christian values.

I have heard that Cheney will open the Waterboarding room at Heritage USA for Jerry Falwell. Rumor has it that Tammy will appear in drag (costume) to disrupt the ceremony.

Go to msn.com and read Tony Snow’s denial of Cheney’s intent “he didn’t mean waterboarding” when he said that dunking in water is a “no-brainer”. I guess that goes along with “stay the course has never been our policy” and “we don’t torture”. This administration, that got into office saying they would restore integrity to the WH, believes they can do so by deception, half-truths and outright lies. They are straight out of George Orwell’s “1984″.

I guess they are banking on the assumption that the majority of Americans aren’t really paying attention. They are too busy with two jobs to cover tuition, increased energy costs and a huge mortgage to complain.
