As a smoker I sympathize with Obama, it is damn hard to quit, and I too have failed many times in my attempt to stop. Wish I never had, but that’s water under the bridge, now to stop is the eventual goal.
Used to smoke, but never that much. There’s this about smoking–it’s relatively non-partisan, at least in the practice of it. Tskers probably trend liberal, although as a liberal myself I’m not especially on board with that.
What I think this post is about, though, is the almost desperate yearning a great many people have for a political figure who seems truly different from the run-of-the-mill. So far, Obama fills the bill, so that anything he says or does, or doesn’t say or doesn’t do, or does but is trying not to do, becomes news.
Well, the fact that he smokes doesn’t fit into the public’s image of him, which frankly, has been hero worship. The only politician that I can compare him to is JFK-he had the same kind of star over his head. Of course after he died, I was shocked to find out that the SS brought women into the WH for him whenever Jackie was away. Guess, in the end, they’re all human, LOL!
I do happen to hate smoking, but I don’t judge people who do it: I just try to stay away when they are doing it!

I think you are absolutely right about this, jjc. People desperately want someone we can look up to, and a lot of people think that Obama fits that bill. I have a pretty positive impression of him myself, but I do think that the fawning over him is a little over the top (the Maureen Dowd piece is a perfect example: “Oh, he’s imperfect so that makes him even more perfect!”) But I do see in all of this, that people are sick and tired of fallen heroes and we’d like a real one to step forward.
I hate the tiskers more than the puffers. I hope you’re being ironic Justin.
Of course I’m not a tsker. Just having some fun with both the line and the photo.

I have to admit that I’m surprised. He seems way too smart to do something that stupid. Ok, so I’m a tsker!
It’s a damn hard thing to quit because you can smoke here and there and still have a full life.
Perhaps Barack is having the same dilemma.
By the way…being a tsker is not a bad thing!
I smoke. Tsk tskers are the most frustrating people in the world.

Tsk, Tsk, MvdG. (Kidding of course LOL)
