Yeah… emancipation of women right?
Another great column in today’s WaPo. This time one about the veil: Yvonne Ridley explains why we in the West interprete the veil and Koranic verses completely wrong. In fact, so she argues, the Koran is great! for the emancipation of women.
Charles has some background information on Yvonne Ridley:
Yvonne Ridley is a member of George Galloway’s RESPECT party, and has written numerous essays defending Islamic terrorism. She described those murdered in last year’s terrorist attacks in Jordan as “collaborators.� She wrote, “I think I’d rather put up with a brother like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi any day than have a traitor or sell-out for a father, son or grandfather.� She described Shamil Basaev, the mastermind of the massacre of Russian school children at Beslan, as “a Shaheed,� or martyr. She was fired by Al Jazeera because she was too extreme even for them.
So. The WaPo chose to publish an – excuse the strong wording – absolute piece of garbage written by a terrorist sympathizer.
Well, glad that column did not prove to be a complete waste of time.

Well I’ll admit I wasn’t sufficiently inspired to write a letter of complaint to WaPo just on the basis of that ridiculous column, but seeing that this lovely lady thinks killing hundreds of inoccent children makes you a martyr for the prophet, well that’s just the little push I needed.
There’s only one problem: I’m an idiot, and cannot for the life of me find where I must go to write a mail of complaint. In the contact section I see Comics pages feedback, and a newsroom contact, but I am unsure whom to mail about this issue. Can anyone help? Michael? Tommy?

Michael..I agree this woman is out of her ever loving mind, but as an aside…I notice what I consider a certainly NOT moderate trend in your linkage. Little Green Footballs, Dan Reihl, Jeff Goldstien, etc.
I find it has sadly increased my unwillingness to read you seriously on a site I look for Moderate views on. I can visit Wingnuttia by myself (like Moonbatville, though I choose not to go there either…).
capelza: the sad reality is: that other sites don’t seem to write as much about issues like these. They are writing about other issues I suppose.
Also: I am sorry if that influences you in so far that you even consider not reading my posts any longer, but I also have to say this: when Charles Johnsen, Dan Riehl, Goldstein, etc. are right, they’re right.
Using the old cliche – a broken clock is right twice a day. Capelza – Don’t question the likes of LGF or Riehl………..
At least the US doesn’t elect the likes of Ward Churchill and Bernadine Dohrn was an associate at the law firm Sidley Austin. Since 2002, she has served as a Visiting Law Faculty at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

Riehl is a knucklehead and Goldstein is just weird. As for Johnson and his problems, I can’t sum them up any better than Radley Balko did at this LINK.

Stop bashing LGF and the rest of them. Just because Charles isn’t a Muslim bootlicker like so many on the left, doesn’t make him a Nazi. All those conservative blogs you mentioned are superior to the KosKidz and the absolutely putrid stuff that I see on AMERICABlog, the Smirking Chimp, and Liberal Avenger regularly.

I’m afraid it is true. Don’t you read the Qur’an? The only debate is whether the statement in the Qur’an says it is OK to beat your wife (with no mitigation whatsoever) or OK to beat her only lightly. By the way, most schools of jurisprudence in Islam have ruled that no such mitigation exists.
Some religions condone violence more than others. Some cultures are more violent than others. That is a fact. Get over it.
I’m sure the Taliban would strongly defend western feminism against the likes of Pat Robertson. By the way, they still prosecute people for witchcraft in Saudi Arabia today. They also whip lesbians and execute gay men in Iran and other Islamic regimes.
Actually, studies that factor in the reality that women often take time off their careers to raise children and then return to work at a later point, find that when this is adjusted for, there is a negligible difference in pay between men and women in the United States. Feminists frequently cite studies that don’t take that point into account.

By the way, what is the moron Agitator blog even talking about. I clicked over to their link to the quiz (it was that hilarious old “Late German Fascists” quiz we always get a kick out of over at LGF) and the comparisons they attempt to make are just kooky.
First think you notice once you hit that link is a prime example of lefty hyperbole:
