My take on the faith and politics issue is this: there’s nothing wrong with religious people having a voice in politics, but when their views constitute a special interest or viewpoint that isn’t shared by the majority, then the elected officials shouldn’t legislate on that basis. What would be healthy though, would be to find common ground between values of people with religious views and the values of secularists. I do think that we need to come to some consensus about the basic moral issues, but not the detailed interpretation that comes from religion.
