Just Letting You Know
I will not be able to post a lot today, let alone participate in the comment threads: my parents have gone to my grandmother who seems to be dying, she does not breath for a while, before she starts breathing again, does not respond to anything, &c.
I have to go to classes in a second and after that I have to go to my grandmother. Again: I am afraid that I will have little or no time today to post, let alone actively participate in comment threads.

SARUM: Your comment is truly amazing. You can’t put your political wars aside for one moment when his grandmother is ill. FYI Michael lives in Europe and is a student there. It’s truly sad to see people who are paranoid and feel that if someone disagrees with them partly or totally that they must be stealth staffers of a political party. The person who is recogzized is YOU by your highly inappropriate, inaccurate and due to the timing reprehensible comment. Michael: apologies that someone left a comment like that.
Joe and Kim, thanks for calling Sarum out as well (and Joe: there is of course no need for you to apologize for it).
Even in a forum such as this there is a time to refrain from the partisan remarks. This is such a time.
I did find one aspect of the comment by Sarum interesting. Although I can easily recognize aspects of Michael’s European persona he does seem to be able to relate to US culture much better than most of his peers. It’s quite a valuable trait in my opinion .
I think Michael has made a good choice going into American Studies. He seems well suited for it. My husband was mentioning over the weekend that both Michael van der Galien and Michael Stickings seem to know more about American politics than easily 85% (at least) of Americans. He was wondering if that was in any way typical of educated foreigners. I didn’t know the answer myself.

Many of us have been in that situation where we have to say farewell to our grandparents. It’s very hard, but the beautiful memories of our grandparents will always stay.

My grandmother died today at 3.45PM. She died very peacefully and calmly.
