I have a problem with saying that Mark Foley doesn’t represent “Gay Republicans.” Who does he represent? Gay Democrats? Gay Independents? Gay Anarchists?

Answer: None of the above. Mark Foley wasn’t elected because he was gay or in spite of it. Most of the world didn’t know of his sexual orientation until recently. And to focus on the fact that he is gay overlooks the larger point: had he been outed, he would have had some explaining to do. But what really got him in trouble was the fact that he is a sexual predator. Straight or gay, that’s a big problem. That he turned out to be gay was the icing on the cake.

I don’t know what lamebrain will conclude that Mark Foley is your typical gay Republican. Oh, they’ll be out there on both sides of the aisle since idiocy is not a right-or-left-wing issue. But anyone who thinks about it for two seconds will realize that it is not the case.

I completely get the point that gay Republicans are “Republicans” because they support some of the principles the Republicans adhere to. But it doesn’t change the fact that they are supporting a party that considers them to be, at best, freaks, and at worse, Satan’s spawn.

Being a gay republican must be alot like punching yourself in the nuts.
