Racism in Anti-Tea Party Groups Too

In spite of protests from the vast majority of Tea Party leaders and members that they do not condone racism, the dominant theme for the last week has been that the Tea Party has to answer for racists in its midst.  The NAACP went out of its way to not only condemn racist individuals, but to condemn the entire Tea Party movement as racist.

Disturbingly, there seems no reciprocal demand that anti-Tea Party groups apply the same standard to their own side.  Racist statements made by members and leaders of the NAACP itself attract little interest.  And a video of a member of an extreme Latino group making racist comments about Tea Party members has yet to receive a single condemnation from those who demanded that the Tea party answer for every racist wacko who might show up at their protests.

In fact, it appears conservative critics were right when they observed that the “racism” accusations against the Tea Party were just a political tactic, not a genuine concern about the influence of racism in today’s political debate.
