A 2002 Al Gore speech reprinted. It’s prophetic.
Meanwhile, Spencer Ackerman reflects on moderate-left Bush-hatred:
By using September 11 to aggregate power for himself, and to make his opponents–you, me, and every other liberal who needed to feel like we could trust our leaders after we were attacked–feel disloyal to their country, he prevented us from healing.
Discuss.
Which is of course why I am not listening to Bush’s speech this evening no matter how much he and his claim it won’t be political. How long did Bush and Rove wait before politicizing 9/11? How many months? Anything Bush does related to 9/11 is political now. He’s not capable of doing anything that isn’t political anymore.
Well, I think 9/11 belongs to all of us-whether we agree with or oppose Bush’s policies.
His uberpartisanship is just a temporary blot on America’s soul. The positive aspect of this, is that more moderates and liberals are rejecting the narrowness of his appeal, recognize fully that they have been misled by his leadership, and are no longer listening to his divisive rhetoric. Bush cannot suppress the aspects of our democracy that he finds inconvenient, which is what makes me proud to be an American.
