The Glories Of Education In Saudi Arabia

A Washington Post piece run in the San Jose Mercury News contains THIS COLLECTION of excerpts from textbooks produced in Saudi Arabia. Here’s the paper’s intro:

The passages below — drawn from the same set of Saudi texts proudly cited in the new 74-page review of curriculum reform being distributed by the Saudi Embassy — are shaping the views of the next generation of Saudis and Muslims worldwide. Unchanged, they will only harden and deepen hatred, intolerance and violence toward other faiths and cultures, according to the author of the above article.

You can read the full collection yourself. Our favorites are taught to first and eighth graders:

FIRST GRADE:

“Fill in the blanks with the appropriate words (Islam, hellfire): Every religion other than ——– is false. Whoever dies outside of Islam enters ——– .”

EIGHTH GRADE

“As cited in Ibn Abbas: The apes are Jews, the people of the Sabbath; while the swine are the Christians, the infidels of the communion of Jesus.”

“God told His Prophet, Muhammad, about the Jews, who learned from parts of God’s book (the Torah and the Gospels) that God alone is worthy of worship. Despite this, they espouse falsehood through idol-worship, soothsaying and sorcery. In doing so, they obey the devil. They prefer the people of falsehood to the people of the truth out of envy and hostility. This earns them condemnation and is a warning to us not to do as they did.”

“They are the Jews, whom God has cursed and with whom He is so angry that He will never again be satisfied” with them.

“Some of the people of the Sabbath were punished by being turned into apes and swine. Some of them were made to worship the devil, and not God, through consecration, sacrifice, prayer, appeals for help and other types of worship. Some of the Jews worship the devil. Likewise, some members of this nation worship the devil, and not God.”

This is baloney. With a name like Gandelman, I’m clearly not a Muslim. And here is the latest photo of ME:

Also, if you look at some random photos, it’s clear there’s no way that apes look Jewish:

Shouldn’t a key United States ally in the war against terrorism be working to eliminate one of the central causes of terrorism: hatred?

PS: To those who are going to read something into our use of silly photos to wring a cheap laugh at yours truly’s and you-know-who’s expense and see some big, political, serious conspiratorial meaning in the use of the pix, saying this just proves we get checks from Howard Dean (members of the TMV’s Get A Life Club are on the right and left these days) here’s EQUAL TIME:

Whats all this “blood money for a muslim, blood money for an infidel” stuff. What do they mean by “Blood Money”?

Are you sure this has been translated correctly Joe?

BTW, are the Saudis still giving away 2 million bucks to westerner for converting to Islam?

  2. K. Gregory says:

How many blogs do you know that go out and hire translators to retranslate foreign language material that has been quoted in news reports they link to that have been carried on the Internet? REALLY…How is Joe supposed to know that and how many blogs recheck all the translations they quote in their posts?

  3. Salmineo says:

Well, somebody should, because people are being killed by the thousands over this crap. Pardon me if I think it is relevant.

  4. Pyst says:

Nice to know this is our ally. NOT

  5. Dave Schuler says:

Joe, nice pic. I didn’t know you were a vegetarian. ;-)

  6. Joe says:

    It keeps down my weight.

  7. Chippedchips says:

BLOOD MONEY=ASSASSINATION FOR PAY ie mercanaries, profissional hit men, which incidently, is the way Saddam should have been taken out.

Almost every government on the planet, including ours, uses hired assassins, even trained military assassins, SEALs, Delta Force, etc., only our U S military calls them special operations experts something I know quite a bit about since I spent 18 of my 22 years military service in special operations.

Our government has more than a few covert special operatives buried so deep in secrecy, one of your own relatives or neighbors could be involved and you’d never know it.

  8. Pyst says:

Does that include sushi as well Joe?

  11. Dave Schuler says:

SnarkyShark, I can’t speak for other Christian denominations but that is not the teaching of the Catholic Church, cf. Nostra Aetate. Of non-Christian faiths, especially, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism, the document says

The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence those ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men. Indeed, she proclaims, and ever must proclaim Christ “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to Himself.(4)

The Church, therefore, exhorts her sons, that through dialogue and collaboration with the followers of other religions, carried out with prudence and love and in witness to the Christian faith and life, they recognize, preserve and promote the good things, spiritual and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values found among these men.

SnarkyShark may have received a Catholic education prior to the mid-1960s.

  13. SnarkyShark says:

Luthran…in the early 70s…but thanks for playing

  14. SnarkyShark says:

And in my part of the world, there are Baptist who think Methodists are going to hell.

Catholics? Not even a question there. The bible-thumpers here will tell you to your face that your going to hell. Dont even get me started on what they think of the jews.

My point is, self reflection is a hard thing. Sometimes when your pointing fingers, you might be pointing in the mirror.

Im oppossed to relegious extremism in any form. Its the root cause of most human misery all through history. Catholics werent so tolerant back in the 1500s now where they.

No bust on Catholics or Christians, just food for thought.

  15. Joe, I read about this a while ago and it is completely sickening. I am proud to be part of the Apes and Pigs Alliance ;-)
