My, we're getting upset at the fiasco this political pollution of "science" is becoming.

Just wait until you get surprised by more people getting rich off this, notably from the cap-and-trade scam.

Try reading again, DLS. I was referring to the typical research scientists in the field. They are not becoming wealthy from their work. That is a lie.

hi there and welcome lennmeister: It is not customary at the Moderate Voice for commenters to call one another names, but sometimes people get heated about what they think/ believe.

You can read the commenters' rules at the top of the home page for more info on what is and what is not allowed at TMV. We are dedicated to civil discussion without attacks on writers or other commenters.

The way you handled this with an invitation to create a 'do-over' is good.

Re your book on the Constitution, sometimes when I want to know something that requires deep attention for sustained periods, I listen to it on audio, instead of reading. There are some great scholarly but accessible audios out there on serious subjects like this. Use Google or Dogpile to find them. Some are free. Some have to be purchased. But, also there are library rentals for free.

dr.e
deputy managing editor, The Moderate Voice

I apologize if I offended you. I am in no way a nut job. Just a concerned citizen. I spend my days working with my hands. At night After dinner and time with my kids, there isn't much time left for me to increase my knowledge on worldly news. So yes, I watch Fox news. I used to watch CNN and I also tried MSNBC. For me I found Fox to be more creditable. As for the Salt thing I heard it on the radio on my way home from work on the news. Honestly I only caught the tail end of the story. I thought they were talking about Mass. Okay, it was NY, Sorry about that.
I recently purchased a book on the constitution. I am still trying to find time to read it. It's a slow process. But at least I am trying to be an informed citizen. I was getting the feeling from you that you were talking down to me. And you came across to me to be an elite lefty. You say you are a moderate. If you are, I apologize for mis understanding you.
Maybe that's where some of the problem lies. You think of me as a right wing nut job and I thought of you as a left wing elitist. Why don't we start over and maybe you can recommend where I can find truth. Because in the end, That is what I am seeking TRUTH. Not what one group wants me to believe. I lack the formal education. But I am smarter than the average drop out.
So, I am reaching out in sincerity. I hope you do as well.
As for This other guy Jim_Satterfield. Please let me know what you think for his stance.
Just for the record I took a test on line called the Nolan test I think it was. I came up labeled Libertarian leaning towards Conservatism.
http://www.nolanchart.com/survey.php

"They don't become wealthy doing it."

Aside from the many things wrong with the "climate change" environmentalist and socialist politics that are infecting and misusing science, this too is wrong. A number of people already are known to be ready to become eco-barons (my preferred term) if governments (using bogus "science" or not) seek a cap-and-trade scheme in the West, and in addition the eco-barons (some of whom already have profited from this political movement, which is the truth about what it is), there are the market-makers and the numerous other intermediaries just waiting to benefit from such a scheme. That's simply the most blatant example.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/6847227/Questio...

There's no excuse for a perverse carbon or energy tax meant to cripple industry and the economy, but at least that has stronger logic and a stronger case on its side.

They have already been exposed on Global warming.

Well, no they haven't. Investigations abound about the email hacking incident. Nothing, however, has actually discredited the science because Hadley Centre is not the only research center studying climate. There are thousands of scientists studying the science. They are not all engaged in some strange conspiracy against our freedom. They simply do the scientific research they love. They don't become wealthy doing it. They are just curious about the facts and do their best to discover them.

Restrictions on fishing are common. Why? Because in our attempts to get more and more seafood there are parts of the ocean that are just about fished out. So you limit the fishing in that area until the populations can re-establish themselves. What good does it do anyone to wipe out a species that it's popular to eat, like bluefin tuna? It's called responsible management of fisheries.

I didn't call you a name. I simply pointed out that based on what you were writing you displayed ignorance. You just did it again. Of course they thought the world didn't move. You couldn't feel it moving, could you? The same kind of common sense you say you believe in. And multiple items being addressed in one bill aren't always just payoffs. It's just the way things are done. Omnibus bills to save time on votes, etc. are not all about the haggling. What I definitely know is that you seem to be extremely adept at writing up RNC talking points and not much else.

I take it that the only thing you know about what Nancy Pelosi (Note the spelling, which you seem incapable of getting right no matter how many times you write her name.) is the highly edited footage that the conservative blogs are going nuts over. But here is what she really said, in better context. In other words, you are part of the problem she notes in her talk. What do you really know about the bills? What Beck has said? Limbaugh? Fox News? It seems (based on what you write) that those and similar places are your only news sources.

But even though this isn't quite what she meant here's a little fact for you. Until the legislative process is over and done we never know what is in any bill. That's the nature of our system. The House passes one version. The Senate passes another. They go to conference. A final version is hammered out. Then there's another vote. Only then do we know what has made it through the whole process.

lennmiester,

If I wanted to challenge your intelligence, there would be simpler ways to go about that, sir. Neither do I think I am better than anyone else. But if my diction makes you feel inadequate, the onus is on you---not me---to repair.

And for the record, I understand your basic point about government expansion. In fact, I largely agree---albeit not as emphatically. I'm a goddamn moderate conservative for Heaven's sake. But you turned me sour very quickly when you started spouting the mindless rhetoric I hear again and again from extremist nutjobs. Why? Because there is no room for debate in such categorical, black and white statements. So why should I even bother?

"Now the Mass legislature is trying to pass a salt ban in restaurants."
One state assemblyman from New York is proposing that. Where is this "mass literature" you speak of?

"Also, did I hear right Pres. Obama wants to put restrictions on fishing now?"
Look up "tragedy of the commons."

“Also, did I hear right Pres. Obama wants to put restrictions on fishing now?”
Look up “tragedy of the commons.”

Now you resort to name calling? How do you know common sense said the world was flat, or the likes? That is what people believed. Common sense is more like, if you stick your hand on a hot stove your gonna burn your hand. And I also know that things get attached to bills all the time. That is usually how votes are bought. I am a lot smarter than you may think. In bills of the past and now. Good or bad. Just because things have been done a certain way for years. It doesn't make it right. I won't bother to bore you with examples of that. God forbid, I might show partisanship. You don't agree that by attaching earmarks and the like to bills, although allowed, is part of why we are in this mess? And even if you don't. When it comes to HCR. This whole process has been done behind closed doors. The argument that if it were on C-Span, the Reps. would pander to the cameras is a crock. And even if they did, at least we would have an idea what was in it. You know the reason it wasn't on C-Span is they don't want the people to know what kind of screw job is in store for us.

Don't worry about my temper. I am very calm. All I'm saying is little by little for the past 100 years. We have been sliding back towards Europe. Just in my short life, I see more and more regulation and fees. Now the Mass legislature is trying to pass a salt ban in restaurants. They say it will save billions in health care. Also, did I hear right Pres. Obama wants to put restrictions on fishing now? Give me a break!

What makes your facts unpolished is your ignorance. And apparently your inability to read other people's writing. I didn't deny that other people have come here for medical treatment. I said it's not that common. Especially nowadays with the improving health care systems in the rest of the world. You also display appalling ignorance of how our system of legislation works if you think that bills in congress should address only one issue in order to be legitimate it would invalidate pretty much every single law that's ever been passed. Including things about student loans in the health care bill doesn't say a single thing about what's in the bill or their validity. You say it is your common sense that tells you things. Common sense said the earth was flat. Then it said that the earth couldn't possibly move around the sun. I don't hear common sense in your posts, only your political partisanship.

Temper, temper. In the initial phase any bill passed will have more to do with reimbursement and distribution of health care. In the intermediate and long run it will have more to do with medical technology, cost of care, etc.

In so far as controlling what you eat, that ship sailed long ago. Ever hear of the USDA and USFDA? Let's don't get into global warming tonight, please.

Oh My! I guess You are just to smart for me. You must have an Ivy league Education. Wow!
All I am trying to say is, we can learn from our past. Take what is good from it and apply it to now. Freedom to be great. Or freedom to be a dumb slob. As long as the great are not responsible to support those who choose to be slobs. When someone needs help, they should get it. But, it should not become a way of life.
Excuse me for my simple thoughts. I may not be able to articulate my thoughts with the same prestige as you. But at least I don't think I'm better than anyone else.
