The “outrageous” left
Yes, folks, it’s that time again. Another fundraising letter arrived in the mail and I’m going to quote some of its hyper-partisan excess for the purpose of general amusement. Since the previous installment in this series was about Bill Clinton, this time we turn to Steve Forbes, writing on behalf of the Heritage Foundation.
Dear Fellow American,
The left has been outrageous for many years. But now that they control both the White House and both houses of Congress, they are acting dangerously. Not only are they trying to shove their radical, destructive agenda down America’s throat, but they are carrying out an all-out assault against conservative leaders, conservative media, conservative ideas — in fact, all conservatives, period.
Hmmm. If 2009 was the year of liberal aggression, I’m not exactly sure what conservatives are supposed to be afraid of. The answer, apparently, is Markos Moulitsas. As Mr. Forbes explains,
[The liberals] intentions were exposed by a highly influential leftist shortly before the election last year. Markos Moulitsas, founder of the Daily Kos, probably the most widely read leftist website, wrote:
…we have an imperative to take advantage of a historic opportunity to break the conservative movement’s backs and crush their spirits. In the White House, that means getting Obama a broad popular and geographic mandate for change. In the House, that means annihilating the Republican caucus and working toward a 100-seat Democratic majority. In the Senate, it means getting to a 60-seat filibuster proof majority.
Nothing like a good roll in the mud. What a perfect illustration that silliness on the right feeds off silliness on the left and vice versa. But what do I know about fundraising? I imagine that donors part with large sums when they’re all riled up, not when they are soothed by insightful analysis. Here are some more highlights from Forbes’ letter:
[Liberals] resort to insults in place of reasoning, as their reaction to Sarah Palin shows. During the presidential campaign a Philadelphia group of Obama supporters shouted “Let’s stone her.” Leftist web stores sold “Abort Sarah Palin” bumper stickers. An artist created a picture to go with his slogan “Mother I’d Like to Punch” — a man slugging Sarah Palin in the face…
We need to push for strong policies in the war with radical Islam, pointing out how wrong the left is when they side with Europe and the United Nations against their own country, when they insult ordinary Americans, when they push for weakness in the face of our enemies…
I know you are not a billionaire like George Soros or a wealthy Hollywood ideologue like Barbra Streisand. Heritage and I are grateful for every dollar you give, because we know it comes from your heart, and you are sacrificing to support the principles and ideas you believe in.

I've seen similar “insightful analysis” in fundraisers letters and e-mails before. It does seem to be getting shriller, but it's nothing new. Somehow, I got on McCain's list, which does occasionally get me riled, but not in the way I think that he intended.
Just be thankful you don't get the emails that I seem to get from people I always considered “normal” (or maybe you do get them).
I've had everything from “Obama is not a US citizen” to “Why isn't there anyone who actually remembers Obama at Columbia University”.
I'm in the habit of emailing back “The facts:” followed by a link to wherever refutes the ridiculous claim. But to send a return letter would cost $.44 and I really don't think it's worth it.
If, however, they include a prepaid envelope, as AARP always does, I make sure to use it to include a letter with just how much I despise them. It never seems to deter them from continuing correspondence, but I often wonder just what the poor minion that opens the envelope thinks.
i wonder have any of you been following the CPAC convention?…… i dont see any references to it on here unless i have overlooked something. You could only imagine the crazy things said and done there.. comparing the far left to the far right…. sorry the far right is wayyyyyy crazier…. i think the difference is the far left dont excluded groups of people and i mean far as gays, miniorites, under/over educate and the young. the far right are very demeaning… i cant personally understand why the would have glenn beck as the keynote speaker. IDK i personally dont think the far left is that outrageous.
“Cannons to the Left, Cannons to the Right. Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the rest of the country.”
Too funny. . . I've seen more aggression in a poodle.
No kidding!.. My King Charles Spaniel got a Pit Bull haircut… but he's still a Cavalier.
That would be a fixed french poodle…
