Could it be that subconsciously, Tiger Woods prefers Caucasian sexual partners as a way of getting back at his former colonial masters? Furthermore, have today’s African leaders enjoyed the spectacle of his downfall for exactly the same reason?
That is the argument put forth in the pages of Nigeria’s Daily Sun by Dr. Henry A. Onwubiko, one of that country’s leading social activists and scientists.
For The Daily Sun, Dr. Henry A. Onwubiko writes in part:
The tragedy of colonialism and neo-colonialism not only pertains to the transfer of our natural resources to Europe and the United States, but more importantly, to our patterns of consumption, thought and choices that continue to perpetuate the culture of the dominant colonial power. Not only are these patterns determined from early childhood, but they affect the mindset that conditions our choice of sexual partners.
Tiger’s opportunity in life came through a denial of his African identity and the unconscious mortgaging of his childhood for its colorless antithesis. He embalmed himself with vapid values designed to suffocate and subjugate African liberty. As is the case with many African men, his pathological lust for White women can only be attributed to an inferiority complex tied to his pale skin color.
In Western High School, Tiger avoided the few Black women there, whom he saw as anathema to his dream of becoming an honorary White man. In his dating preparations, he perfected his accent away from the usual Black English of African Americans to dazzle his excited blond and brunette playmates – and with extraordinary success. Lightening his skin with cancer-causing chemicals and stretching his richly-coiled hair, which had once protected his skull from the damaging effects of solar radiation, made him more attractive but alienated him from himself.
This same mono-mania has been retained within the unconscious minds of the African male, who views possession of a White female as a soothing ointment for being subjugated in his homeland by the omnipotent and omnipresent White master.

My two cents? I wonder… the writer seems to lack a basic credibility … as he appears to make up out of whole cloth his own very personal fantasy about what he deems a 'real' psychological profile of T. Woods.
Looking at the writer's credentials, I'd suggest the writer may be highly unqualified to diagnose anyone's social psychology… as the writer bills himself as a teacher of biology at a Nigerian college. I guess I'm used to real scientists being, well, scientific, such as using 'evidence based science,' not fantasy projections to determine realities.
I notice the differences between fact and fantasy didnt seem to bother this writer when he wrote an earlier article about Obama in the exact same vein, in the same newspaper, filled with his own now duplicated fantasies about what a bi-racial American 'ought' to be like, according to Dr. Onwubiko.
Dr Onwubiko, claims to be a 'social activist for Africans, but it puzzles that he carries the British given name of “Henry,' which seems confused since he insists that well known bi-racial men who are American citizens, have seemingly forsaken their true African heritages, and gone down low instead. Dr. Henry seems to not only carry a non-African first name… but his taking on the title of Dr. is not an African moniker. It's one of the certifications of those, 'other people' he rails against.
In all, his writing vs his own personal situation that he uses to position himself, dont seem to match. Just my .02
Better question is why such nonsense is posted here?
Why does tiger like white women? Probably because he has been bombarded with images of what a beautiful woman looks like…that image has historically been white. Or maybe because he grew up on a golf course where most people are white?
I wouldn't surprised to find out that Tiger votes Republican.
Dear Shannonlee,
The reason for posting this is that, as uncomfortable and illogical as it may seem to us, a huge number of people in Africa continue to believe these ideas – and we as Americans ought to be aware of it. In the minds of millions of Africans, colonialism is alive and well, and this article explains how they think it all plays out.
As far as the man's credentials, he is a renowned biochemist in that part of the world – trained in the United States. And as you point out, he is a regular columnist that people pay attention to.
OK, why not ask why Tiger Woods turned his back on Asian women. He is 1/2 Asian. Why does his black heritage trump all else?
This is a silly article, written for political reasons only. There are people of many different races who prefer to date other races, whether due to finding them exotic, being raised around them, or whatever.
As long as we entertain the stupidity of this writer's point of view, we will never achieve color-blindness in our social interactions.
Since few of us know what its like to live as a bi-racial man, who are we to judge who Tiger chooses to date? I prefer to judge the “special” status that celebrities enjoy which seems to bestow an air of entitlement upon them that the rest of us can only dream of.

I hate to say it, but any American that cares what goes on in Africa is probably well-read enough to know such feelings still exist….the rest of the country could care less.
In most ways, I'd agree with Dr. E on this article — that he projects a great deal of his own feelings and situation onto the personal choices of one man who grew up in different circumstances.
On the other hand, the narrative that Dr. Henry presents does indicate a few larger issues that are mostly untouched in the American media, and I would disagree that he has merely made it up, although its projection onto Tiger Woods in particular may be inappropriate. There are still deep hurts in most of Africa due to the history of colonialism by white countries, and this includes the rejection of African beauty standards for white beauty standards. It also would be incorrect to assume that this narrative does not continue to exist among the African American community. Namely: the embrace of white culture (for example, golf and blonde women) is very much seen as a betrayal of black culture in many cases. To be clear: I am in no way criticizing Tiger Woods for his taste in women, nor his taste for golf (historically almost exclusively white); I am only stating that I think the article does have the ability to demonstrate a few important cultural and racial issues that go largely ignored.
Why should TMV carry this tabloid fodder?
[He embalmed himself with vapid values designed to suffocate and subjugate African liberty]—-lol
I suppose you could call extreme poverty, rampant corruption, tribal slaughter and murderous religious combat a form of, “liberty”.
It has been my painful experience that Nigerians in general are incredibly arrogant. One might blame that on their once British masters but Kenya was also once a British Colony and I find that the Kenyans are a quite civilized and kind people, twice as capable as the Nigerians. However I also believe that one must at times fail in order to advance and that failures may be a good indication of one’s effort of which a degree of confidence is necessary. It’s just that the Kenyans do this with such noble qualities while the Nigerians plod through with thick headed stubbornness that achieves little in the end. Kenya has little if any natural resources to sell the world, while Nigeria has all that oil that they have been selling for decades, but both nation’s people are in abject poverty. The Kenyan’s use of the internet; find husbands for their poor young women. Nigeria’s internet contribution; steal your bank account!
As for Tiger Woods, he is an American of partial African descent, not an African and certainly not a Nigerian. He is free to mate with any race or mixture of races that he pleases without criticism., though some may criticize him for his extramarital choices. Extramarital adventures are rarely criticized at all in most African nations with Nigeria seemingly leading the way. So I doubt that the not-so-good “doctor” would find reason for such criticism. Tiger Woods may be an imperfect human being, but he is an American, and, we embrace him at the very least as such! Quite unlike a white man born in Nigeria.
No. I disagree.
They are “being led to believe” these ideas. It does not come naturally of the general population's own rationalizations. Some African leaders seem to think that by castigating the “white west” they can draw attention away from their own ineptitude, while others accept their failures, and, keep trying. Of these two mentalities whom shall be the most likely to succeed in the end?
Certainly, a bit more prurient fare than we normally see here, dr e, and I would have sympathized with you if that was the reason for your objections.
However, if factually supported premises, followed by tightly constructed entailments, written by authors whose degrees grant them subject matter expertise were required for all TMV submissions, then I suspect we would not be reading much here.
Leading scientist in Nigeria = thinest kid a fat camp. I pubmed'ed this guy and he has three publications on proteins…three. Granted 2 or Nature Methods, but he wasn't the first or senior author. Who really knows how much of the research he was really involved in. In comparision, my wife had 10 before she got her PhD.
This guy isn't any more qualified than the average commentor on TMV.
Quite.
Hmmm…you smart.
Only when my spellchecker works.
There are over 1 M Nigerians in the US.
3 M Nigerians in Great Britain
There are about 140 M in Nigeria
In the last fifty years, Nigerians have immigrated in droves for educational and economic opportunities in the US and Great Britain
The 'brain drain' in Nigeria has been notable, losing millions of those already educated and those seeking education in other countries
The newspaper which publishes Dr. Henry's screed on Barack Obama and Tiger Woods and others American citizens, appears to claim it is the most read newspaper by Nigerian-Americans, reaching into the American and British communites of ex-pat Nigerians, and influencing them.
I think that is the story that might merit looking into, to see how Nigerian Americans actually see all this that Doc Henry has put forth as being 'the way Nigerians think'. Knowing several Nigerian Americans, I pretty much doubt Dr. Henry's ideas and others who think he has such unanimity in the Nigerian American community. But, I could be wrong. It would be interesting to find out how the Nigerian American community voted in the last POTUS election, for instance, just for starters.
Uh….illegal immigration….amnesty….illegal immigration…..amnesty…..just might have contributed to such a suspected problem.
This thread got kind of ugly. A bunch of white Americans sitting around hating on Nigeria and its people…nice.
Never been to Nigeria, I see.
You should get on a plane and take a peek for yourself. Come back when you know what you are talking about. If you come back.
F_t — I never claimed to have been there; have you? In what context? It really doesn't change my observation that this thread has been a bunch of white Americans taking low shots at Nigeria and its people. These low shots not only show a profound lack of awareness of our privilege, but also deny the part that white colonialism has played in the current state of affairs there.
This: “Leading scientist in Nigeria = thinest kid a fat camp. ” Ugly. This: “Who really knows how much of the research he was really involved in. In comparision, my wife had 10 before she got her PhD.” Hugely arrogant and privileged. This: “It has been my painful experience that Nigerians in general are incredibly arrogant.” Shows profound prejudice. This: “I hate to say it, but any American that cares what goes on in Africa is probably well-read enough to know such feelings still exist….the rest of the country could care less” A glorification of privilege. This: “why not ask why Tiger Woods turned his back on Asian women. He is 1/2 Asian. Why does his black heritage trump all else?” Shows a profound lack of understanding of…anything.
Thank you roro! Everything you write here resonates with depth and light.
Something to think about: How many different voices can create “other” and for why?
The egoic sense of self needs conflict because its sense of a seprate identity gets strengthened in fighting against this or that, and in demonstrating that this is “me” and that is not “me.”
Not infrequently, tribes, nations, and religions derive a strengthened sense of collective identity from having enemies. Who would the “believer” be without the “unbeliever?”
- Stillness Speaks by Eckhart Tolle
In what context? In the context of; Physically Present. Several times for several weeks/months over a decade.
I compared Kenya to Nigeria, because I am genuinely traveled in Africa. I defended Tiger Woods on the bases of nationalism. Prejudice on the bases of nationalism is socially acceptable and indeed expected.….worldwide. That’s why we have borders. These are known as political borders.
Nigeria and Nigerians are notorious even among Africans. When they are in arrogant mode, they like to speak for Africa as a whole, but Africans generally don’t like them, nor listen to them. If you had been to Africa, in the context of physically present, you would know this. Besides, the man criticized us from a racist nationalist perspective which made him fair game, of which retaliatory comments here were quite civilized in comparison IMO.
“I defended Tiger Woods on the bases of nationalism. Prejudice on the bases of nationalism is socially acceptable and indeed expected.….worldwide. “
Hmmm…I'm trying really hard to understand what you're talking about here — is it that you think it's ok to paint everyone in a particular country with a wide and negative brush just because there are things called “borders”? Oh, and also USA! USA! ? Like this dude took a swing at your countryman so you think you need to swing back? You are a weird, weird dude.
The reason I asked in what context you were there is because a person who goes with, say, the peace corps generally has a different experience of a national character than someone who goes to hunt elephants, which is different from going as a soldier, for example.
You are sick.
I can only assume you're talking to me…but I truly don't see how anything I said indicated illness. But then again, as I said before, you're a very odd person.
