if people think badly of the politicians and/or the political system, is that the fault of the reporters? are we back to shooting the messenger on this one?
Yeah, God forbid we actually make these impressionable young people think that politicians are nothing but a bunch of money-grubbing, power-hungry sycophants who will say and do anything to advance their own fame and fortune. If we’re not careful, they may start demanding competency.
As Nick stated, “If we’re not careful, they may start demanding competency,â€? that is the bottom line. Long before the first airing of the Daily Show, our bungling two-party system and ineffectual press led us to our current level of apathy and cynicism.
Is it just possible that the fault lies with politicians who spin fear and hate, or perhaps the media’s unwillingness or inability to muster the integrity to demand the truth? It seems all too convenient to fault the lone voice expressing skepticism of the emperor’s clothing choices than to demand a change of wardrobe.
This article is asking, “Can people take a joke?” The real question is, are people getting their news from television or through a variety of mediums? Are people watching CNN and NBC and comparing and contrasting what they see, or are they just watching Fox News? The article misses the point.
Not only does the article miss the point, it comes to the wrong conclusion. I believe people who view government negatively are more likely to vote because the feel they have to limit the harm government might bring to them.
I remember being corrupted by the likes of Chevy Chase and John Belushi on Saturday Night Live.
Heh, the rawstory is commenting on a fake news show that says it’s a fake news show, irony?
Strangley, I get much more honesty out of the daily show than say Fox news or CNN. Well, more so Fox.
Gee, why on earth would young people prefer getting their news from Jon Stewart rather than Bob Scheiffer or Dan Rather?
And could their perception of the parties be more a result of the behavior of the parties rather than Jon Stewart’s commenting on them?
Honest faux news is better for them than dishonest Faux News.
Let us see here, Stewart has a variety of guests on his show from actors, writers, radio personalities, congressmen, senators, and presidential hopefuls from both parties. Yep, just terrible that young people see the politicians for what they are, bumbling idiots most of them. Oh the humanity.
Of course he is, but only in the way that water is dangerous to drink.
I agree with MadMustard. Our politicians have created an audience and a gold mine for Jon Stewart by inept representation. He is just capitalizing on their bad behavior.. If they want to minimize his influence, they should try actually representing ordinary Americans, instead of pandering to the conglomeration of special interests that make up their bases.
