How Did Sarah Palin Do Among Independent Voters In Her Tea Party Convention Speech? Here’s a CNN discussion (I was on this one with independent voter analyist Nicole Kurokawa) that aired after her speech last night:
GO HERE to view her whole speech and decide for yourself.
Her speech was about consolidating her authority in the Tea Party movement, nothing more. She wants to take ownership of the party. To even think there was anything for Independents in that speech or that Dems would move towards the Tea Party is crazy.
I wonder if Fox is going to be able to control their little creation. They didn't found the group, but they were instrumental in its advancement to the national stage. I have a feeling that they are going to regret their part in all of this…just call it a gut feeling.
Good job Joe!
I only have one question: How was the 'red meat' flavor, and not being 'inclusive', different from anything that has come before? Since she hit the national stage in '08, are there any examples anywhere of her reaching out toward moderates, or being inclusive?
I have a transcript of the first 16 1/2 minutes of the speech over at my post, as well as my thoughts on some of the statements Palin made.
Polimom, I was absolutely flabbergasted by how how incredibly partisan Palin's speech was. Absolutely flabbergasted. I was expecting some 'red meat' to be thrown to the conservative base, but the completely one dimensional apologist's defense of the Republican Party platform and attack on the Democratic Party was not something I was expecting from an independent grassroots Tea Party event.
Just watch the speech. It becomes patently obviously that it is a partisan speech less than five minutes into it.
I did watch (most of it anyway). I came away with the distinct feeling that she's gonna run for the top job in 2012. Very much a campaign speech, imho, not unlike the RNC speech in many ways.
Nice job Joe!!
Great job Joe. I have to say, the Tea Party folks appear to be in danger of departing from whatever they might have had in the way of broad appeal (if it ever even existed). Sarah Palin cares about Sarah Palin. Any way she can find to promote herself she will take – including inserting herself into the Tea Party (with enthusiastic support from lots of them). I think Shannon's comment is interesting – about the possibility of FOX losing control of what was in part their creation. I think we all realize why the GOP can't afford to let the Tea Party become competitive in any way with the GOP – except perhaps as some artificial construct that ends up merging with the GOP at some fortuitious, glorious moment. Sounds Rovian no?
Why was it so hard to understand why Palin gave a partisan speech. She is after all an avowed Republican. She was hired to speak at this convention as a guest speaker. She has not become the leader of the Tea Party Movement.
Even better than the previous one, Joe.
As to Mrs.Palin–as both panelists said, “snarky”. I would add condescending.
