Details on John McCain’s 2008 (Nonexistent) Plan for the Sinking Economy

One of the most dramatic moments of campaign 2008 was when Republican candidate Senator John McCain announced that he was suspending his campaign and immediately flying to Washington due to the seemingly collapsing economy, in a take charge imagery moment. But in Henry Paulson’s new book, On the Brink, now excerpted in the Wall Street Journal, the ex-Treasury Secretary gives an insider’s account that contends McCain really did not have any plan at all.

Great, another book telling us something we already know. McCain made a terrible decision and that moment was the beginning of the end. Everyone knew it was just a stunt and that McCain had nothing to offer. I prayed that McCain would take Romney as his VP candidate. He needed to shore up his lack of knowledge on economics. He would have been in a great spot politically when the economy finally tanked.

Anyway, I don't need Paulson to tell me that McCain didn't have a plan…I believe that is common knowledge, even amoung Reps. What I would like Paulson to tell me is why he gave his friends all of our money and didn't attach anything to the deal to protect the tax payer.

Well, maybe I know the answer to that too…I would just like to hear him admit it.

Did McCain ever claim to have a plan? Maybe my memory is faulty but I don't recall him claiming that he was going back to the Senate to present a plan, but rather to suspend campaigning in order to go back and do the job he was being paid to do as a Senator and participate along with the other Congressmen in trying to find a solution. The criticism here seems a bit off base. Then again maybe its just my faulty memory so if someone could provide a link to McCain claiming to have the solution and needing to go back to DC to implement this solution, please post it.

I don't think so and why didn't anyone challenge you. As usual, some posts are deemed to be too “vague” to be responded to.
