Joe- I agree with you %100. When extremists attack innocent victims and each other they alienate the moderate middle, and stifle civil debate. We have had this type of polarizing political environment since the Clinton years, on this and many other issues.
Many extremists are very well-organized politically, such as the Christian right and Naral. I seriously think that to get some type of representation, moderates from both parties need to form their own PACor register as independents. Otherwise, we might split right in two in our OWN civil war. There definitely is one going on now on divisive cultural issues.
