Shame on CBS to take this idiotic stand on never letting these Jack Benny masters ever see the light of day! I grew up watching him in the 60's and up to his death in 1974. It was indeed a sad day for me. I certainly feel fortunate to be able to see what is available, and thank God for Laura who helps preserve his memory and so many great shows through her never ending dedication with allowing us to utilize her Jack Benny Fan Club. It is truly another sad day for me and I'm sure for many others of this news. I also wrote CBS, of course knowing that I will never hear a response back.

Those masters are not stable! They are disintegrating and eventually will be virtually unwatchable if not digitally copied onto hard drives and DVDs.

The question remains, why does CBS want to destroy the priceless work of Jack Benny?

This is indeed a crime!

I was just reading an article from the November 2009 Scientific American about television and the internet. The writer wasn't thrilled about how the media companies are holding back progress in the name of their existing business models, much like everyone else I know who has thought about it. This horrible act on the part of CBS is just further confirmation of how little consideration the corporate executive mindset tends to give to either the future or the past. Hiding a treasure like Benny's legacy from the public is just an act of idiocy. What do they think they gain from this?
