The Latest Raging Debate About Barack Obama

Is he a “wimp” on national security or not? Can the case be made that for political reasons some are trying to hang the dreaded “Jimmy Carter” label on him, or is it emerging that he deserves the label? (We link…YOU decide…)

The GOP 2010 strategy is to put both the Carter and Clinton label on Obama in an attempt to besmear the entire party [and hopefully gain back some seats in Congress].

I offer a counter-strategy: pinning the label of “war criminals” on the former GOP administration. Let's see which strategy works? If they're going to play hardball, the dems shouldn't hesistate a nanosecond in exposing the nasty truth about the Iraq invasion and subsequent fallout..

  2. DaMav says:

Obama makes me yearn for the relatively vigorous and assertive policies of the Carter Administration. Jimmy Carter must be ecstatic that he can no longer be tagged as the weakest President in recent US history.

  3. Silhouette says:

See, there it is right there. ^

    Lol…perfect timing.

  5. DLS says:

Actually, Carter's superiority was that he was coherent and consistent, whereas Obama currently is floundering or even flailing, and behaving somewhat as if he is confused or in situations that are over his and his administrations' heads (which has been a common defect they have exhibited for the year so far).

Wow. I disagree with the W word, I agree with Maureen Dowd, it should be the C word.

  7. DLS says:

While enjoying modern medicine in the USA, circa 2010 (15-hour wait in the emergency room last week), I saw a column in a paper, by Kathleen Parker. The security threat “dots” needed to be connected, and were doing everything but dancing the California Raisin dance in front of everyone at the time, she says. Obama “has the ball” now, cannot stupidly blame Bush any longer. It's time to play, to stop dribbling, she says.

    For what it's worth…

  8. DaMav says:

There what is? Are you saying Obama's performance is as strong as Carter's was? I don't remember Carter getting on TV after we were attacked by radical Islam and going on for forty minutes about how the world owed them a huge debt for inventing the pen. For that matter, Carter didn't go traipsing off to Copenhagen begging for the Olympics and fall on his face, nor did he run around bowing to Kings and Emperors whenever they showed up in his venue. Carter served in the US Navy, not the Altgeld Gardens tenants club, an may have been overly concerned about lust in his heart but never retreated into cocaine and marijuana to “”push questions of who I was out of my mind.”

Just because Carter was the weakest to date doesn't mean he will keep that title for all time. There is a new contender in town, and his first year's performance makes him an almost shoe-in for the crown.

Sorry but if you're going to prove that Carter was weaker than Obama you're going to have to come up with something more convincing than blaming the GOP for pointing it out.

  9. T-Steel says:

Talk to me after he leaves office to see if the “worse than Carter” label is valid.

  10. JeffersonDavis says:

I knew I could count on you for an attitude adjustment.
Well said. You actually beat me to that one.

  11. Silhouette says:

Wait a minute T, not so fast. Maybe the GOP has a point? Maybe Obama should toughen up a little. He could really show some teeth moving forward and indicting Dick Cheney et al for war crimes. And he should show no mercy in their prosecution. That would excersize his presidential muscle and get his blood flowing to act as better Commander-In-Chief.

  12. DaMav says:

So we have to wait 3 years?

  13. ProfElwood says:

Wait a minute yourself, Silhouette! If we start holding Cheney responsible for war crimes, that might open the flood gates to all officials being held responsible for their crimes. You've got to watch out for the slippery slopes, or you could ruin our entire system of government.

  14. JeffersonDavis says:

“Obama …could really show some teeth moving forward and indicting Dick Cheney et al for war crimes. …That would excersize his presidential muscle and get his blood flowing to act as better Commander-In-Chief.”

Beside the point that a prosecution like that will never happen – even if it were to happen, it wouldn't have the desired effect of making President Obama look stronger.
It would make him look partisan and petty – whether or not such prosecutions are warranted.

It's the old “sour grapes” philosophy, and it backfires every time either party tries it. There's a reason Congressional approval ratings have settled around 13%. It's not all corruption. It's the crap like partisan prosecutions every four or eight years, that do nothing but waste taxpayer money and divert the attention of the idiots on Capitol Hill – who already possess an attention span that is way too small in the first place.

  15. T-Steel says:

You don't have to wait 3 years. Your an adult with your own feelings about this. I'm talking about myself. It's the reason why I didn't make a final judgment on Former President Bush while he was in office. I like to look back at the body of work. Yes I have criticisms of President Obama but there is still much time left. I can't add “worse President ever” to a sitting President. The future is a devious thing…

  16. dduck12 says:

You are right. too early to tell.

  17. DaMav says:

Fair enough T-Steel. In fact it may take decades for history to sort out the true impact of a given President. If Obama becomes a more effective President I will be delighted and take him off my list. I'd love to see that happen and believe it is possible, just not probable.
