thank you for caring Dorian. Same old story since WWII wacs and Nam. Same same. The outmoded and often elitist two tier org of the military between ncos and cos doesnt help either. Hopefully wisdom, strength, skills will prevail.

Dorian,

You have again exposed one of the vestiges of hypocrisy about serving, and working, women. The extent to which we continue to base policy on the old stereotype that women need the protection of men and are, therefore, not the equal of men, defines how far we have yet to travel on the road of gender equality.

It is not the rules, not the terms of service, not even the curtailment of advancement opportunites. It is the underlying attitudes that allow those rules, terms of service and curtailment of opportunities to continue to dog us and expose us as having not yet acheived our purported ideal of full equality for all citizens. And, yes, add gay and lesbian citizens to that equation as well.

Great post Dorian! I find it fascinating how the same arguments made against women's rights (in the military in particular, but also in general) mirror arguments against gay rights.

Women should get the chance to perform every military duty open to a man if they are qualified to do so, no ifs no ands, no buts. These women are willing to pay the ultimate price in service to our country, how can we deny them the right to serve wherever they want if qualified. There is no excuses for this.
