Double Dead-End

With race in the media, it’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

It’s an interesting article, but I think it fails to mention something else of even greater importance. News takes up only a small portion of tv time on the major networks so the success stories and news media coverage are not as prominent as your average prime time show. Maybe what we need to focus on is the lack of non-white characters on tv. Sure, there are black people on major network shows. But very few of them are main characters. The same can be said for Hispanics, Asians, and Indians. And the funny thing is, two of the most popular shows on TV have pretty diverse casts (LOST and Desperate Housewives) so it’s not like people won’t watch a show with a Mexican woman or an African man in a leading role. The networks just don’t do it very often.
