At first glance, this seems like fantastic news. After all, the guy is being let off.
But the opening on this story certainly gave me pause:
KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan court on Sunday dismissed a case against a man who converted from Islam to Christianity because of a lack of evidence and he will be released soon, officials said.
Well, what does that mean for the next convert to Christianity where the evidence is overwhelming? Will that person be put to death?
I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But for now, I am very thankful Mr. Rahman is free. Let’s hope he can practice his religious beliefs free from scrutiny.—
It doesnt mean anything….sharia law still trumps their constitution…..women still have few rights…its all smoke and mirrors….
Man, I just love the way we are spreading freedom throughout the world
Unless he is immediately expelled from Afghanistan and put on a plane to Western Europe or the USA, he is likely to be torn to death by his fellow citizens.
And if this is how they want to be just why is the US helping them? Time to leave Kabul and Khandahar to the barbarians, and stop wasting our money on fools. Get back into the mountains and kill the sumbitch that attacked us.
if it was some other religion that he chose, i doubt we would even hear about it. it’s only because he chose christianity that bush was up in arms and determined to help this guy out.
and as for pyst’s comment about “barbarians”, just because they have different beliefs than you do does not make them barbarians. nice stereotyping though. let me guess–you’re american, right?
Ok PC annie, got your burhqa handy? How about stoning someone to death for some minor infraction today? You know the Taliban is back right? Maybe a few 12-13 year old girls forced married off to some 60 year old clerics ? Public executions more your style?
Damn right alot of those people are barbarians, and ditto I am american, where I can choose my religion (or lack thereof) without threat of death, where women aren’t treated like cattle to be traded, or slaughtered on a whim. Where honour killings will get the killers jail (or worse) rather than the approval of religion in that part of the world. So yes they are barbaric compared to me. See I’ve never subjugated anyone, or care ever to do so, never taken up arms against anyone, nor would I unless attacked, use my religion (don’t have one) to force my morals on others, or marry my daughters off to some pedophile.
Their “beliefs” are sick and twisted at the base level, if-since those are the examples.
I guess you aren’t really female, or care about personal freedom to choose your path in life, right?
The only objections to executing this man came from the Western world — not a word of protest from the Muslim world. Apparently they think it’s okay. “Barbarians” may be a pretty good description after all.
I know it wasn’t PC of me to say, but I will not hold my tongue when something is obvious. Sorry I hurt someones sensabilities for using a sledgehammer, instead of a feather, or being nice when it isn’t earned.
Islam has a history of subjugation of women, and subjugation of personal freedom of religion. Sharia law is widespread, and getting worse even amongst the “moderate”, and “liberal” Muslims in the ME. Steal a crumb of bread to feed yourself when you are starving, have your hand cut off, have a beer (a ME creation at that) and be executed, adultery and be stoned to death. Lovely culture, and legal system, if you are barbaric that is. When they advance past the 13th century in their own minds I will change my mind about them.
And btw I think the Iraq war was complete garbage, and unessicary, neither am I religious, I am agnostic so tagging me as the average american doesn’t cut it either. I just don’t cut slack to those whom don’t deserve it, and when I lash out at them I do not hold my tongue. This ain’t happy time play nice hour, and not hurt the poor Muslim’s feelings, while they execute another woman for daring to show her face, or some rediculious crap.
I would just like to say one thing. The government of Afghanistan set Mr. Abdul Rehman free because of his mental situation. His family also described him as mentally ill. Can a mentally ill person knows what he is doing and if he is like this does he knows about his religion? I would really like to know about it. And on other hand why everyone is turnning their guns against religions.
