The sizes of their mouths, their lack of judgment and their underlying intolerance suggest they are separated at birth.
As Israel’s Prime Minister Ariel Sharon battles what surely appears to be the end of his public if not physical life due to strokes we get this hate-filled comment from Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:
TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s president said Thursday he hoped for the death of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the latest anti-Israeli comment by a leader who has already provoked international criticism for suggesting that Israel be “wiped off the map.”“Hopefully, the news that the criminal of Sabra and Chatilla has joined his ancestors is final,” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the semiofficial Iranian Students News Agency.
Ahmadinejad was referring to Sharon, who as defense minister in 1982 directed Israel’s ill-fated invasion of Lebanon. An Israeli commission found him indirectly responsible for a massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Chatilla refugee camps by Christian Phalangist soldiers.
…”Hopefully, others (criminals like him) will join him too,” ISNA quoted Ahmadinejad as telling a group of clerics in Qom, a holy city 80 miles south of the capital.
And let’s just guess what religion these other criminals that he wants to join him are. Let’s see…..
Ah, and then there’s the Reverend Pat Robertson, a man of the cloth who might consider stuffing the cloth in his own mouth:
ROBERTSON: I have said last year that Israel was entering into the most dangerous period of its entire existence as a nation. That is intensifying this year with the loss of Sharon. Sharon was personally a very likable person. I am sad to see him in this condition. But I think we need to look at the Bible and the Book of Joel. The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, “divide my land.” God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible, he says, “This is my land.” And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he going carve it up and give it away, God says, “No. This is mine.” And the same thing — I had a wonderful meeting with Yitzhak Rabin in 1974. He was tragically assassinated, and it was terrible thing that happened, but nevertheless, he was dead. And now Ariel Sharon, who was again a very likeable person, a delightful person to be with. I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God’s land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or United States of America. God said, “This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone.”
Take that one very seriously because as we all know on several occasions — such as the time a city dared to vote out “intelligent design” — Pat Robertson has communicated to us exactly what God is thinking.
What can you say about these people? They’ve been mentally brain-washed due to their political hatred, religious hatred or, in Robertson’s case, belief that he alone knows more than any other mortal on this earth what God is thinking. I get a sneaking suspicion that God is hearing Robertson’s comment and is now waving his hand, creating a large roll of duct tape.
The comments of these two leaders separated by continents show a sad truism: sometimes the intellectual (or non-intellectual) extremes go so far to the ends that they excrete a mental diarrhea that MUST be similar in DNA.
Still, they do provide sad comedy relief for the bulk of thinking people. And they also provide useful role models for the young — for what they must never, ever become.

Hey Joe, leave intelligent design out of this. Robertson and the Dover school board were trying to impose a theory by fiat and shame people into accepting it, but that says nothing about the theory’s viability. Moderates are supposed to carefully divide issues so as to never assume that people with a particular view are obligated to hold another.
I don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Robertson and television preachers. They rule with hate, fear, hypocrisy, and only the loons follow them. They live by “do as I say not as I do”…example: Falwell, Baker’s, Robertson, etc. They just want people to give them cash to support their “type” of religion and their living standards. Like they say ” a fool and his money will soon be parted”.
Actually, if you remember Robertson on intelligent design mentioning this does not make me not a moderate. Remember what happened? He basically said that due to the way they voted God would punish them. Actually, I’ve lost track of Robertson’s verbal barrages, but you can do a search on that one. I didn’t make a comment about intelligent design per se…but mentioned the city: he basically said God would be mad because of the way they voted. (God and Robertson apparently vote the same way on everything).
I’m no Robertson apologist at all- he’s a moron. But the last time I checked, he wasn’t trying to develop nuclear weapon or foster suicide bombings. There are comparisons here. But there are huge differences as well. Perspective, people…perspective.
Talk about a nightmare. Imagine a universe run by an all-powerful God who is so ignorant that he listens to a pinheads like Pat Robertson. Scary.
Do I like that Pat Robertson has thrown pearls before the swine? Of course not. If you don’t believe the Bible and what it says about the land of Israel belonging to God and his chosen people, then the above column is for you. Um, Leroy, the Bible also says the earth has corners and rests upon pillars. All Christians “don’t believe” at least some of what the Bible says. It’s all in which portions of the Bible one accepts as allegory and which portions one does not. Christian faith is not a black-and-white thing. If it were, I believe that God would have laid it out that way for us, rather than giving us pretty vague instructions. Other than “Love God, love your neighbor”, of course.
There are intelligent Christians in the world, despite what Pat Robertson and the simplistic fundamentalists think. The Bible is more complex than Pat Robertson thinks it is. He should read Job, which mocks the sort of simple-minded analysis Pat makes. The book of Jonah makes much the same point. Read the whole Bible, Pat, and think before you run your mouth.
Kreiz, he did call for the assassination of Hugo Chavez did he not? Or some derivative of. So no, he’s not developing nuclear weapons or carpet bombing folks. But last I recall, at my Jesuit HS, none of the priests called for, or hoped for anyones assassination. I just don’t think that is particularly becoming of a Christian leader.
leroy, when did God say we needed to attend Church on Sunday morning, I missed that in school and the bible. Last I recall, anyone anywhere could speak directly to God in their own way. Unless there is some flowchart I missed somewhere about going through a specific person to get to him. Glad you are able to define exactly what a Christian is.

Jim- I called Robertson a moron, hardly a raving endorsement. You’re right, he endorsed the idea of Chavez’s assassination. If he was our President and had access to nuclear arms, I’d be scared to death. He isn’t and doesn’t. This contrasts with Iran’s president, who may soon have nuclear means. These are significant and unsubtle distinctions. I would think that moderates (myself included) can grasp them.
Just because someone names the name of Christ does not make them a Christian.
No Pope – No Preacher – and surely NOT Pat Robertson can change the biblical truth of Salvation based on New Covenant teachings.
Pat Robertson promotes a gospel of Christ plus – when in reality it is Christ and Christ only and no other mediator or work to save you.

For the record, doctrine of James Dobson has placed the church equal with the secular world in percentage of family problems while collecting money for speeches, interviews, tapes, and books following his Freudian doctrine.
Men that promise liberty yet place their subjects into bondage are not of G-d but are decievers for their own personal gain.
