Right now we are cracking down on Shiite dominated police, prisons and death squads. Some of them have fought back, Sunni have been driven out of some neighborhoods just as Shia have been driven out of others. It is true that the jihadists have declared their intentional to destroy the infidel Shia and trigger civil war. They represent only one faction of the insurgency. The situation is complex with potential for genocidal civil war. We are making some effort to balance interests which is what democracy is about. However some people are trying to imitate Limbaugh when he used public pressure to get the president overrule Marine Judgement and launch the first offensive against Falluja. These people will find some pleasure in a blood thirsty crackdown on the dastardly Sunni, these people also wrongly believe the Shia are our friends. They don't seem to understand that one of the more horrible dangers is a region wide conflict. The Saudis and others have also expressed concern that we are backing Shia to suppress Sunni. And of course if that happens and we face oil embargos the lets punish the Sunni crowd will say it's because we weren't brutal enough. A untrue statement.
