You gotta hand it to him. Democratic Governor Brian Schwitzer has sure been impressive in his first year. An unabashed progressive with 65% approval ratings in the bloodiest of red states?
If I were the GOP (especially Conrad Burns!), this would scare me almost as much as Abramoff.

Schweitzer has done a number of things right. For one, he’s shown how Democrats can make hunter’s rights a progressive issue. The future of the Democratic Party is the West, not the South. With large Hispanic populations, and concern over water rights, overpopulation, excessive growth and smog dominating the discussion in Western states like NV, AZ, NM, CO and MT, the Dems can take charge of the political debate. Culture war crap doesn’t play out West the way it does down South. Maybe in Utah or Idaho it does, but nowhere else. Even staunchly GOP Wyoming is ripe for some Democratic incursions (the Governor is a Dem).
