It is more a question of political survival. European voters simply do not want their soldiers over there...period. There was a time before the Iraq war that they fully supported a presence there, but that ended after we invaded Iraq. I personally wondered why European countries didn't pull out of Afghanistan directly after we invaded Iraq. If we have enough troops to start a second war, then why do we need their help in Afghanistan? It isn't so much that they don't see the threat. It is more a question of political survival. Why would this be? Apparently they do not really see the threats that our pentagon says we have, or, they would send far more troops than the laughable amount they send, to protect their interests.
