I think that it most cases of the "moderate" voter, the position is the logical result of repulsion of both the right and the left and a certain understanding of both sides. There are also, IMO, certain politicians who stand for a certain principled moderatism (Lieberman and McCain come to mind- The GOP's favorite Democrat and the Dems favorite Republican.) HOWEVER- so many politicians aim to become "moderates" not because of what they believe, but instead merely in an attempt to lose as few votes as possible. What does John Kerry or Hillary Clinton really, actually, truly believe is the right approach in Iraq? Honestly, I cannot parse their beliefs from their BS, which is forgivable to me on most issues, except that this is a war, and I don't especially like the idea of a war being treated as a piece on a political checker-board. It doesn't especially matter that moderates don't agree on everything- neither do libs or conservatives. However, what is disconcerting is that both liberals and conservatives have "theoretical" practicioners, so to speak, that they can point to as faithfully representing the heart of their movement. It's so difficult to determine who's really a moderate and who only moves to the center when its politically expedient. They are in the pockets of big business, special interests, and are only looking out for themselves and not for the average American citizen ************************** i completely agree with that statement.. i was in another forum the other day and the discussion was how the repub's are basically 2 groups. the rich and mostly corrupt engaging in spin just to gain wealth and power in washington and the (sudden) influx of the lower class uneducated religious freaks who are buying into bush's crap.. now i don't know where any of you stand and i dont' really agree with a lot that this site says (this blog where i'm posting now).. but anyway someone posted one simple sentence that really summed it up and that is, "that republicans are voting against themselves".. this was in regards to the lower income uneducated who have helped bush... i found that statement so proufound and true.. also interesting discussion .. if you google the word "cults" and read the definition of what makes a cult, a cult leader, and a cult follower..it seems to fit like a glove to the present blind devotion to this bush administration and it's corrupt and inept behavior yet ppl just keep exclaiming their devotion to him... it totally freaks me out .. i keep wondering just what does he have to do, how many have to die (whether iraq or new orleans or 9/11).. how many on his watch have to be hurt, how many laws can he and his party break before people wake up and care... http://jeannie411.blogdrive.com Both parties have lost their way.
